Re: I'll take a crack at it (Playoff Predictions)
I only made slight changes from my predictions 3 weeks ago:
1. Weber St. in place of UNI.
2. EWU to McNeese and SFA going to Montana. (I had SFA to Montana and McNeese to UNI).

The committee should send thank you cards to Stony Brook and Lehigh.UNHWildCats wrote:nice.

I think this is the strongest field we've seen in 4 or 5 years at least.
I see 11 teams that are strong enough to win the NC.

I like this field, Dane. I think it's pretty spot on.

Still think SDSU is going to Missoula.

Don't think so, Willie, because the Jacks average almost 10,000 attendance in Brookings.Willie wrote:Still think SDSU is going to Missoula.
Here are the 11/16/09 GPI rankings, 2008 attendance averages and possible full seedings for the western FCS teams most likely in the playoffs:
1. Montana, 23,923, GPI #5 - hosts #7 SFA, lowest available non-conference opponent
2. Southern Illinois, 9,055, GPI #2 - hosts #8 due to bus proximity
3. South Dakota State, 9,907, GPI #10 - hosts #6 Weber State
4. McNeese State, 13,829, GPI #15 - hosts #5 Eastern Washington
5. Eastern Washington, 6,719, GPI #11
6. Weber State, 6,910, GPI #14
7. Stephen F Austin, 8,577, GPI #16
8. Eastern Illinois, 5,089, GPI #22
If the Weber and EWU power ratings swap due to this week's games, I would swap where they play.

Do they go off of last years attendance or this years? I hope its this years, cause we averaged 13,200 here in Brookings this yearnative wrote:Don't think so, Willie, because the Jacks average almost 10,000 attendance in Brookings.Willie wrote:Still think SDSU is going to Missoula.

Re: I'll take a crack at it (Playoff Predictions)
Enough playoff threads as it is, so I'll fold my weekly crap in favor of this one.
The field, as I see it. Behold!:
1) S. Illinois
E. Illinois
Weber St.
@ South Dakota St.
New Hampshire
@ Appalachian St.
Elon
4) Richmond
2) Villanova
Holy Cross
William & Mary
@ South Carolina St.
E. Washington
@ McNeese St.
Stephen F. Austin
3) Montana
Doubt it will play out like that, but I like it. Despite only seeding four teams, the quarterfinals are set up so that there is at least the appearance that the top seed is paired with roughly an eight, two with a seven-ish, etc. Richmond and App would be a fantastic 4/5-ish matchup. There really isn't a western team that could fill the six against Montana, and W&M is better than a seven, but with regionalization that's about as close as you can get it.
Last year the western teams were pissed that they had to beat each other up in the first two rounds, leaving only one western representative in the semis. Thanks in part to the even split between the number of eastern and western teams, this bracket at least makes it possible for both regions to be represented in the later rounds.
Looks like the eastern pods are absolutely going to be brutal, but no one ever said that having a playoff automagically makes things more fair.

I suspect the NCAA go off of this year's attendance. More importantly, I am sure SDSU's hosting bid included attendance figures from this year.Thumper 76 wrote:Do they go off of last years attendance or this years?
