Yeah, but then Lafayette will get credit for beating the #13 team in the country and it will artificially be bumped up.

Just makes no sense to me.

It's the same sort of reason that App is in the 20's in the computers and 7th in the human polls... and the same reason UNI is still living off of almost beating a vastly overrated Iowa team...

Overrated or not, Iowa is still much better than any of the FBS teams that the CAA got so excited over beating. :coffee:

I agree, and it was a good showing for the Panthers, but it's still an "L". You can only get so far into a winner take all tournament with an "L" as the crown jewel on your resume.

But you're totally right. I'll take a 1 point loss to a Big 10 Champion over a narrow win over Ball State in terms of a "better result"

UNI isn't being rewarded by voters for that loss....if anything voters are holding it against us compared to the computers. This is as of last week

Northern Iowa (5-3)
Middle 5 Computer Rankings: #7, #7, #9, #9, #10
Human Rankings: #11, #12, #12

I think UNI's history and the Iowa game have them rated higher than they should be in BOTH polls, however this is a personal opinion that I do not will be shared by many on this board. :thumb:

My point was that, sometimes, teams get propped up in the polls, human or otherwise, by games that are really more than they seem, or just based on history of the program. UNI has earned respect, and earned a ranking. However, a blind taste test would probably put them a little lower in the polls.

If you look at the results, UNI should be lower, but if you have actually seen the UNI team, they should be higher. UNI is one of the better teams in the country. Unfortunately, they had bad games at the wrong times.

I think its pretty fair where they are at right now IMO.

before uni played either siu or sdsu i said they were way overrated :coffee: .that said they are still one of the best in the fcs and playing at the dome they are very hard to beat. in the ags poll starting last year montana has now been "jump" four times in the polls after winning! once by a team with a "good lost"! the ags poll is becoming NOTHING more than a "homer" poll imo!

Montana drops to #3 because they have not played anyone compared to SIU and Vil (according to some)
I don't have a problem with them at 3 but if you are basing it on the ISU game and not playing anyone...

W against Eastern Washington -- ranked
W against Weber State -- ranked
W against Northern Arizona -- ranked at that time
W against Cal Poly -- ranked at that time

still have 1 game left against ranked team

If the Griz beat the Cats they would have 5 W's against top 25 teams, almost 1/2 of the schedule would have been ranked at the time the Griz played those teams yet we play a weak schedule....xsmhx

Shit, if we're going to talk about polling boosts without anything substantial to back it up, does this same phenomenon apply to La Liberté when they're ranked ahead of no fewer than ten teams that would be favored against the Flames regardless of where the game was played? And this grouping doesn't even include JMU, since the result of that particular matchup is a known quantity at this point.

I said at the time they played them, not where they are now. Montana does not control how teams play. AGS had them (Poly) ranked 13th that week. My bad on NAU, I thought they were ranked 23rd that week....

Well, Wofford, Georgia Southern and Furman have all been ranked. Can I count them as quality wins? I mean, Appalachian does not control how teams play. ;)

I don't know. How about McNeese St? Can you count that as a quality win?

You shouldn't count losses against teams that were "ranked at the time" - especially early in the year before anyone figures out who the overrated teams are.

So how about late in the season? TXST has beaten 2 ranked teams back to back. (though overrated UCA has now dropped out). You want to go on conference records? 4 teams in the SLC are at 4-1 and one gets an "others receiving votes" after beating TXST and UCA. SFA has beaten the 3 worst teams in the conference plus McNeese by 3....how do they earn their placement?

It's all human subjectivity anyway. And, for what it's worth, I'd rather we (TXST) weren't ranked. It's not a good omen for us

Better late in the year than early in the year - at least by late in the year, most have "earned" a spot in the top 25 up to that point.

I'm not going to do the research, but we all know there are teams that are ranked early, but end up below .500...

I've got SELA at 17 after having them at 19 the week before and 24 from 2 weeks ago.

I hope this poll doesnt have any influence on the playoffs. If 2 go go from the MVFC it should be SDSU and SIU provided each wins out. SDSU has the tie breaker and should be rated ahead of UNI.

I like the Bobcats as underdogs, they play better. Tough to be 6-3 and have beaten SFA and UCA but only ranked 25. Losses against a good SLU, great TCU, and decent SUU.

Oh well lets keep on doing what we are doing.

UNI is pretty good. IMO, they're ranked about right. It's South Dakota State that's ranked too low.

Exactly so! LOTS of bias on the AGS poll. I was scolded by the administrator for submitting a ballot without many of those 2-loss and 3-loss teams from weak conferences ranked in the top 25. BS!
