UC-Davis @ Portland State

Post by JALMOND »

Kickoff scheduled for 1 pm PDT at Portland's PGE Park for these two former DII rivals. Connor Kavanaugh will get his second career start at quarterback for the Vikings, but Glanville has said that Oregon State transfer Justin Engstrom could see some action as well. Drew Hubel, still listed as questionable, has a new knee brace that gives him more mobility and was expecting to play, but chances are that the Vikings will hold him out in preparation for Eastern Washington next week. The Vikings hold the edge over the Aggies all time, yet the Aggies have won the last two meetings. Vikings leading tackler, Erik Pedersen, is out for the season with a broken forearm, and will be replaced by his twin brother David Pedersen. The Aggies come in to the game with a 3-3 record, having beaten Winston Salem State last week in Davis. Two losses, though, have come to WAC teams (Fresno State and Boise State), their only FCS loss was a close one at home to Montana early in the season. Weather should be partly cloudy (the Portland area is between storm systems), with game temps in the low to mid 50's.

Final

UC-Davis 34
Portland State 31

We flat out did not play the fourth quarter and therefore did not complete an otherwise good performance. What showed was that Kavanaugh, for all the hype, cannot finish a game. We went three and out early in the fourth and punted. Davis fumbled the catch and we recovered on the Aggie 20. We then did another three and out with Kavanaugh and had to kick a field goal. Then Davis took over and the game was done. Good game to UC-Davis, they wanted it more than us. We are just a totally different team with Kavanaugh than with Hubel.

I would say the Viks were outplayed for the entire second half. I think PSU had like 25 yards of offense in the second half, it was ridiculous. Aggies showed better conditioning and resolve to win this one, despite a lot of aggressive mistakes on UC Davis' part...they still found a way to win. What is Glanville doing with this program in Portland? Growing up in the Portland Metro area it makes me sad that PSU isn't in the conversation with Weber, Montana, EWU and NAU.
