So let me get this straight.

You tell others to quit hating in their posts and to quit all of the hate in their lives...so you post more hate just because others post this or that...all the while you advocate against, AGAINST, the hate.

Really doesn't make sense. Please enlighten us all with your knowledge.
Some people can see the stars, but still can't see the light. :twocents:

The hate generated by this board infects everyone. Some are glib and dopey about it. Others just ignorant.

This game is going to pit a very good option team, SHSU, against a very good West Coast Attack, NDSU BISON.

There was a preview of this matchup when the bad bison played SHSU last week. Stoney Brook did a nice job moving the ball too. In those games we saw a glimmer of what The NDSU BISON offense can do. 21 pts in the first half is a real possibility.

In the other game we saw the bad SHSU put their legendary option attack up against one of the most schooled option defenses in the history of the game. This is so because of the legendary body of knowledge accumulated on the option in the BISON LORE. It is well known fact the option is a good, dangerous offense, but is is maybe not so well known that it is fatally flawed.

There is your game in a nutshell.

I would not have characterized what NDSU does as "West Coast Offense." To me it looks "older school" than that. To me it looks like a lot of old fashioned power I. And the passing game doesn't necessarily look like a lot of quick release stuff to me.

To me they "smash mouth" a lot. Like one thing I really liked watching this season was when they needed to run the clock out against Northern Iowa. They lined up with the QB under center and what I'd call two full backs; one on each side in the tackle/guard area. Just before the snap one would shift to the center right behind the quarterback so they'd overload that side and run to it. UNI couldn't stop it at all. Brutal, physical, power football.

Well our offense under Bohl has always been called the power west coast. If a team wants to stack the box Jensen can dink and dunk a team to death, but if our power running game is going we won't mess around throwing too much outside of mixing in some play action.

The running is the power. The quick releases are there, lots of roll out passes and flare passes. Its a very effective attack. Its going to be the story.

I rewatched some of the GSU game that I DVR'd. They sort of remind of what McNeese did in the mid-90's from the Kerry Joseph days and right after. Power running game and passing when needed and a very good defense.

The thing about NDSU's running game, to me, is that it doesn't have to put up eye popping yardage to be effective. I'm heavily influenced by having watched them play Northern Iowa. To me that was a game dominated by NDSU to an extent much greater than the final score indicated. Anyway, they ended up with 145 net yards rushing. But they'd make three or four yards at a time and just kept moving the the football. They ended up with a 13 minute time of possession edge. It was an extremely effective running game even though you looked up at the end and didn't see big gobs of yardage.

It was classic "three yards and a cloud of dust" stereotype football. Mash. Mash. Mash. Mash. Move the pile. I loved watching it. Very refreshing in these days of "golly gee whiz bang" offense to see somebody play physical offensive football like that.

This type of football is very effective, until you are playing a team that can score quickly and you find yourselves down by a couple scores and forced to abandon it. If SHSU gets a couple quick scores early it might force NDSU to pass a little more than they are comfortable with. I think NDSU's defense will probably be good enough to make enough stops, but this game could go either way and IMO a shootout type game favors Sam Houston.

bill fette

321 yds against GSU isnt bad. This game hinges on a turn over or a big play. There is big play potential on both sides so that is probably a wash. Something like a TO will be the difference and The BISON have the advantage there.

But why does a shoot-out favor SHSU? It should favor the NDSU BISON.

NDSU put up 35 against a decent GSU defense and held that outstanding option attack to just 7.

SHSU was only able to put up 31 against the bad bison grizzlies and gave up 28.

I think the writing is on the wall if its a shoot-out: NDSU BISON ALL THE WAY!!

I think I basically agree with you. It'll be interesting to see how things develop. I do expect NDSU to have difficulty running the ball early because Sam Houston has good defensive players and they stack the line of scrimmage. . But my expectation is that if they are able to stick with it their running game will become more effective as the game goes on. I haven't even looked at the weights but my belief right now is that NDSU is the bigger, more physical team and I think it might be by a pretty good margin.

Guess I need to go ahead and actually look at the numbers though.
