A typical 'we're the center of the universe' App State blog post
They're fooling themselves over a number of things -
Georgia Southern will be a more natural rival to CCU than ASU - GSU will be harder to top, and they are much easier to dislike. Oh, and after a CCU-GSU game in COnway, none of the local Hooters will be inhabitable for weeks afterwards
ASU has been going backwards, not forwards. CCU will own them within 5 years
I don't think the furmans and the El Cids and the Elons have been laughing at CCU. Especially since CCU is something like 6 or 7-1 against them. In fact, this blog post qualifies as more "laughing" than any of the other schools have done
Go to the Sun Blet and whip em like the family mule. Every year
Wow, so much hate. We're 3-0-0 vs the beach chickens as it stands now.
We did win six in a row in our first year against new teams, and playing the tougher part of the conference, so there's that. No doubt CCU is coming along very quickly, but we're adapting pretty well after a couple of subpar seasons.

It really doesn't. Only one current Sun Belt school has a smaller enrollment than CCU (Louisiana-Monroe) and every single one of them (even Idaho!) averaged higher attendance than Coastal's current facilities can even hold. Do they have real good reason to expect an explosion in attendance with new seats, or is CCU just blindly hoping Joe Moglia's pocketbook will somehow solve everything?
Coach's checkbook isn't a consideration. It's not part of the equation.

I dont hate ASU
I actually like ASU - I have wonderful memories of your two farewell seasons in the SoCon!
But the blog author's hubris is showing if he thinks ASU will be CCU's main Sun Blet rival

I just read the whole thing on yosef's cabin, and it is a pretty arrogant article. We salvaged a decent season last year, but we're too new and lack the history to be casting stones at current conference mates (aside from GSU) much less beating on CCU.

A little early to say that, no? One year in I-A...
When CCU's star stops rising then I'll temper my prediction - but they have not backslid during their entire history in football and right now there's no reason to think they will anytime soon
I think they could have been in the top 4 in the sun blet last year easily

So what is the equation?
To assert that our wealthy coach is bankrolling ANYTHING is absurd and inaccurate. CCU has been fundraising like gangbusters over the past few years, with and without the help of Joe's contacts.

The only thing I've heard that he funds himself is some extra money on the side for his assistant coaches to keep good ones there, and help with the recruiting budget to get around the country visiting more players. Which is completely reasonable and smart.

The process to upgrade Brooks Stadium to meet FBS football standards will launch immediately and will expand the facility to 20,000 seats.
During the 2014-15 season 10 of 18 CCU athletic programs made appearances in NCAA postseason competition. CCU was one of only five NCAA Division I universities to have its football, men's soccer, men's basketball and baseball teams qualify for NCAA postseason play in last season. Joining the Chanticleers were Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame and UCLA.
"This is a great day for the Sun Belt Conference as we are very proud to have Coastal Carolina University join our membership," said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Karl Benson. "The Sun Belt is a growing conference with a bright future and Coastal Carolina makes a perfect fit as it too has seen a tremendous amount of growth and has all the tools necessary to move forward at the highest level of collegiate athletics. Under the leadership of President David A. DeCenzo and Athletics Director Matt Hogue, I expect the Chanticleers to be competitive in all Sun Belt sports and to represent the conference in a first-class manner on and off the field."
The addition of Coastal Carolina brings the Sun Belt's fulltime membership to 12 beginning next season. Further, the addition makes for a natural geographic split between East and West to allow for certain sports to compete in a divisional format. The six members that are located in the eastern half of the Sun Belt are: Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, South Alabama, and Troy. The six members in the western half are: Arkansas State, Little Rock, UL Lafayette, UL Monroe, UT Arlington, and Texas State. Idaho and New Mexico State compete in the Sun Belt Conference as football only members. CCU's location makes for a natural geographical fit to the Sun Belt as it borders both North Carolina, home of Appalachian State, and Georgia, home to both Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
There will never be an autobid to the FBS playoffs by a non P-5 conference. If they get any guarantee, it will be based on criteria (i.e. being ranked high enough). Nothing will be automatic for those conferences.
