Depending on the poll, UNI was either 1 or 2 and NDSU was fairly close to that at 3 or 4. The score was VERY close. To drop them clear out of the seeds for THAT is egregious in my book.
Thus making them no longer one of the five best in the nation. By your logic, Georgia Southern also still belongs...

losing has consequences... had the Bison lost, they wouldn't belong in the seedings either - that's how it works. I'm also certain that the playoffs will look nothing like this... there's still plenty of season left.

YES!!!

The size of the drop is proportional to the difference in ranking between the teams. In other words, the bigger the difference, the bigger the drop. For UNI and GA Southern, the difference wasn't all that big (and in UNI's case, the spread wasn't all that big), so they only drop a couple of spots in my book.

I understand what you're saying and agree for the most part. I still had GSU at 5 & UNI at 6. Both still in the hunt for a seed.

UNI's losses are to ISU by 1 pt. & @ #1 NDSU
GSU losses are @ #3 App St. & will probably be @ FBS #1/2 Alabama

Not bad losses for either team. They will be the strongest two loss teams in my book, baring any other losses.

I think so too. 12 teams get byes and 8 teams play in the 1st round. Unless I missed something or ESPN has their standing wrong, I don't see how a 9-2 CAA team won't be in the top 12.

while I hope ODU gets a bye, I'm just happy the Monarchs are in the playoffs....truly remarkable. :D

ODU now 25-7 as a program in 2+ years, AND we matched our win total from last year. :notworthy:

IFFFFF, pretty big IF, we are able to upset NDSU next Saturday, where do you guys rank YSU in terms of the 7-4 at-large teams.

Their resume would be this:
Quality wins: #1 NDSU, #17 ILSU,
Quality losses: #16 ILSU by 2, #6 UNI by 4
Bad losses: SDSU by 7

Do you guys think that could trump the resumes of ILSU and/or INSU if they each finish 7-4?

Many thought had we won 2/3 we'd have a good shot. I think our resume would be better with a win over a #1 team than a #6 team..

This is a moot point if we don't win Saturday.

a 7-4 YSU team with a win over NDSU would make the playoffs. (perhaps not in the 16-team era, but most likely in the expanded field). though you might end up playing Thanksgiving weekend.

Playoffs are fine by me. I don't think we would go past the 2nd round, but I really want this group to get some experience for next year, the year I think we have a shot at making a run at it all.

Not unless you beat W&M ...

Ask Liberty at 8-3 last year with an FBS win.

Why do you continue to believe that at 8-3 ODU won't be in the playoffs? :dunce: You act as if WM is LSU. The FCS as a whole is down this year, if you think ODU won't be in the playoffs then please tell me who you think will be in the playoffs taking ODU's spot.

An 8-3 CAA team gets in... There is no doubt at all about that.

Sagarin agrees with CP being on about the level of Portland State, at least, but not some of the others:

72 Montana State AA = 68.75
91 Montana AA = 64.26
112 Portland State AA = 60.80
128 Eastern Washington AA = 57.91
146 Sacramento State AA = 54.78
149 Northern Arizona AA = 54.67
152 Weber State AA = 54.03
207 Idaho State AA = 41.72
218 Northern Colorado AA = 38.08

113 Southern Utah AA = 60.79
114 Cal Poly-SLO AA = 60.69
125 South Dakota AA = 58.41
139 North Dakota AA = 56.05
145 UC Davis AA = 54.95

Here is an article from our website on YSU's playoff chances. I know they aren't in the discussion with the 5-4 record, but the author does give some valid points to YSU's argument:

Tell that to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the regional accreditation agency that has granted Liberty its highest level of accreditation.

Sagarin's got PSU at the same level as Cal Poly - but that's before Davis smacked Cal Poly and PSU took Sac State. I expect the rankings to change a little.

If PSU wins their last two games - very likely - they'll end up 8-3. In fact, if MSU beats Montana next week - very likely - PSU will end up tied with Montana for second in the Big Sky. Mind, Montana did beat PSU by 6 points, so they have the edge. Everyone seems in agreement that regardless, the fact that two of PSU's wins were against a DII and an NAIA, the 8-3 doesn't hold water for the playoffs. That's probably so. I suppose they could give 3 bids to the BSC, but that's unthinkable. The irony is that there will be teams with four losses that get a bid.

And by the way, Superhornet. Cal Poly is now 5-4, and the Great West doesn't have an automatic bid. Any chance PSU will take Cal Poly's place? Nah. I'm still thinking the BSC will get three bids. Not a chance.
