Dude, Bullshit We all have bad games certainly. Furman lost to Newberry the first year we went to the NC game. But Newberry wasn't non-scholly and we didn't lose to them two times in a row.
You'll need to look up the Parsons College loss or ask one of the older Furple fans who would remember it.
1966. Furman lost to Parsons, Tampa, George Washington, Samford...
BTW, never heard of Parsons (probably because they stopped playing football when I was 3) but their 1966 schedule:
Furman W
Truman State W
Chattanooga L
Los Angeles State W
Lincoln (MO) W
Delta State W
St Cloud State W
Bemidji State W
Idaho State W
Hawaii W
North Dakota L (Pecan Bowl)

weird schedule.
Gotcha, the 60s. We quit giving athletic scholarships for football in the 60s.

Non-scholarship, scholarship, D-II, D-III- sometimes they're just labels. There are schools who attract talented kids with creative aid packages. Sometimes those teams are more talented and better coached than schools who offer athletically-related scholarships. It happens.
That said, Chuck South obviously has issues.
Thanks. The 60s were the dreggs for FU football. As I said, we were non-scholly in the 60s. So losing to a non-scholly school when we were non-scholly is not the same comparison that we are talking about here.
I went to a school that played Parsons in basketball. The school was in Iowa I beleive. The youngest looking player on their team looked like he was about 25. The school accepted everyone not to worry about SAT's GPA or any such trivia. If you could walk and breath you were in. I dont know how long they were around but I think eventually the state and the FEDs closed them up. We won the game that night bye the way.
Parson College (RIP) is now the Maharishi University of Management - more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsons_College" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It had an 80% male enrollment back in the 60s as they accepted students that flunked out from other schools. By staying in a school, you deferred your draft.
