Not completely devastating for the Monarchs but it definitely doesn't help.

Also thought I'd rename the thread as well.

ODU football: Two players will share right guard job

No mention or updates of the RB position. I assume Harper will be the starting RB in week 1 against Campbell. WR Nick Mayers suspended indefinitely. :ohno:  And several true freshman might get the opportunity to play in Week 1.

ODU is going to be fine. RB is one of those positions that can be filled without losing a lot. I hope the young man heals quickly. Good luck, ODU.

Thanks Tribal and thanks to Coach Laycock for possibly offering ODU to practice up at WM if the hurricane caused any more damage. Personally, it's really unfortunate for Mario but from a team standpoint we still have a lot of talent at the position. The only issue is that we're pretty thin right now with only 2 true running backs. I also agree that its a position that can be filled without losing a lot...like someone else said, a good running back is only as good as his offensive line.

Also primarily we were mostly a passing team last year. Yeah, Mario was our leading rusher but he only had about 600 yards on the season.

Virginian Pilot's Rich Radford has been doing a lot of writing on ODU Football lately... :D

Today's live online chat with a couple notable quotes...
Rich Radford: I'm thinking they go 7-4, 4-4 in the CAA and sit on pins and needles waiting to see about the playoffs.
On the WM/ODU possible rivalry...
Rich Radford: that all depends on what their records are when they get to that game. If both teams are in the hunt for a playoff berth, look out. That could be a really special game. it was a special game last season for different reasons. And it was close. Honestly, I believe William and Mary is a better team this season.
Rich Radford: The surprise player of the year could be a freshman walk-on. Neal-Anthony Hale, a walk-on from Maury, has been crushing people for a month in preseason practices and I sense he will do the same on special teams. He might work his way into the lineup at safety if he can continue to pick up on things.
Now, the breakout player of the year otherwise should be Angus Harper at running back. I expect a big year from him.
Rich Radford: ODU's APR was vastly affected by the fact that they were a start-up program and such programs have a revolving door in the early stages. I expect the numbers to shore themselves up and the school has three years, I believe, to correct what are presently truly minor issues there.
On the CAA possibly moving up to the FBS as a whole...
Rich Radford: Yes, but not in its present form. I believe that JMU, Delaware, ODU and Georgia State could eventually make the move. They'd need some other players to go along from other conferences. I could see Navy, Appalachian State, Jacksonville State and Georgia Southern doing it and creating a new league. Wishful thinking? Maybe, but who saw Nebraska jumping to the Big Ten?
