Your biggest letdown. . .
Re: Your biggest letdown. . .
The worst part about Montana in 2009 for me came later when it was revealed that we would have gone for two if we scored.

Needless to say, we had the NC in our hands & instead of burying an overmatched team we let them get up off the tarmac...

Hi Grizzalltheway... I'm new to the board, but glad to see you represent V-Town. What'd you think of Bieksa getting ahold of Marleau last night ? I only wish it was Eager.

I seriously doubt he wants to be like me, but it's always great to have another Eagle fan over here. We're already starting to contest the Griz for BSC dominance, soon we'll be contesting them for CS.com dominance. Our plan is working perfectly, muahahahahahaha!grizzaholic wrote:Great. Re: Your biggest letdown. . .
Actually 3 fumbles (2 on kickoffs after not fumbling one all year and one on a handoff at the Montana 8 I think). The 4th TO was an INT thrown by Dudzik near the endzone after Landers went down). Yeah, that one sucked.jmufan wrote:I would have to say the 4 fumbles that cost us the game against Montana in the '08 semifinal. It was so weird how everything that whole year went out way and then one game everything seemed to go south. Oh well.
In a way I'm kind of glad it turned out that way. Had JMU won, Landers wouldn't have been able to play the next week vs UR, and I definitely think would have lost the rematch to them in the NC game. So I look at the bright side- I saved all that coin and the humiliation of losing to UR in the NC game.
But the biggest letdown had to be 07' playoffs @ ASU, down 28-27, 20 some seconds left, 1st down at the ASU 9 and Jamaal Sullivan fumbles when all had to do was kneel on it and kick the chip shot FG for the win. Was a miracle on the mountain for ASU. Would've had EWU at home followed by an opportunity to avenge a regular season 17-16 loss vs UR in a rematch @ home in the semis followed by the opportunity for a rematch vs UD in the NC game to avenge a 37-34 regular season loss.

STOP DOING THAT SE. JEBUS! I am running out of clean ice picks to shove into my eyes and may resort to ball point pens.

Losing to EWU at home in 2008 ending all chances of hosting a first round playoff game before playing at Montana in the 2nd round.

'04 loss to EWU in the first round - Brandon Jacobs was a man among boys that season and it's a shame for fcs fans he didn't get to go further in the playoffs.
'07 semi-final loss to Delaware, we played well enough to win in spite of Flacco having a great game but twice had TDs called back for lineman downfield.

'09 vs. App. My last home game as a student at Elon. One of the two most painful losses ever I have ever witnessed in person.

Blowing a 21-3 lead against Davis the last game of this last season. If Cal Poly had won they would have been 8-3 and in the playoffs. Hurts twice as bad that it was to our rival Davis.

Nice to see EWU has ruined everyone's seasons and Grizza's eyes.

Overmatched? EWU adjusted their game plan, and it worked. Not our fault UD couldn't defend the pass.

Way overmatched Ranger. C'mon, you should know this by now. The mere fact they're from the CAA (Championship Athletes Association) means they're superior to everyone else. I don't know why the 1st team all-CAA hasn't formed a 33rd NFL team yet.EWURanger wrote:bluehenbillk wrote:Needless to say, we had the NC in our hands & instead of burying an overmatched team we let them get up off the tarmac...![]()

Re: Your biggest letdown. . .
For me I think it was our 2004 loss to James Madison. We rolled everyone (137-37 score combined for the first 3 rounds) behind the arm of Craig Ochs. Our defense finally seemed to be gelling in the playoffs too, I think we sacked SHSU's QB like 5 or 6 times when he'd only been sacked 5 times all year prior to that game. The JMU game was our first CAA title game loss and at that time I think most Griz fans (myself included) thought we wouldn't have much of a problem with JMU so it was a big letdown how they ran all over us. Also, the field in Chattanooga was a pretty big letdown that year as well.

The App posters got most of mine, but no one mentioned going from the high of the Michigan win followed immediately by the loss to Wofford. That one stung.

Re: Your biggest letdown. . .
Probably all of the 8-10 games the past couple years that we lost by 7 points or less. We had an incredible amount of games that was lost due to undisciplined game planning by our former coach. Either a fumble or an interception or a hail marry caused a few too many games. Hopefully this changes under coach Collins.Vidav wrote:So I was thinking of this and was curious what other people might say.
What was the biggest letdown you have experienced with your team? Was it a single game (anytime we lose to MSU) or a season (2010) or anything else?
For me it was the 2009 championship game loss to Villanova. Our team was amazing that year and our playoff run was just **** phenomenal. 61 points on the best (I think) defense, holding the best offense to 0 points and then beating Edwards in a close but awesome game (coldest one I have been to).
Going to Chatty and losing to Villanova after that just crushed me. And we lost due to bad coaching. Playing your safeties 15 yards back when the other team is doing a wildcat is just asinine.
So, what was your biggest letdown?

Re: Your biggest letdown. . .
I have to say last year's national championship game hurt the most. I was absolutely numb. I thought for sure we were going to go down and score in the last 30 seconds and pull out a win. I thought we went into a shell on offense in the second half. But kudos to ewe for doing what no one had done all year in passing the ball on our secondary. I do think we had the better team, but ewe found a way to win and they should be congratulated for doing so. It really hurt though!!!
I would say the double OT loss at home in 1992( I think) to james Madison 42-35 was the hardest to take in a game I attended. Terrible officiating for both teams. Damn meac refs
