I don't know why you're trying to turn this into another Chatty thread 89, you barely make games in Newark much less Frisco or Chatty. The NCAA was losing money hand over foot in Chatty, they've said numerous times they're in a better financial situation in Frisco before the 1st ticket gets sold. They care more about $$ than butts in seats, it's pretty simple.

AppSt/UD = 26k in Chatty
Again, my contention is that it should be in the location that has the greatest chance to have the greatest attendance. It's become clear that we can scratch the Southland from the NC game any time soon.
So you are just arguing we should cater to App State and UD...

Better than catering to the Southland!dbackjon wrote:89Hen wrote: For the same opponents Jon.

NC site belongs in CAA/Socon land.

It's been in SoCon land, if you count the times it was in Statesboro prior to them technically being a SoCon team, for 21 straight years. It's never been in CAA land. Of course, SoCon land is a little closer than Chatty, but more than half of the CAA was flying anyway to get there (or a good portion). This moves hurts SoCon fans primarily. But let's also be realistic - Frisco Texas is hardly Pocatello Idaho - people can actually get there.bandl wrote:Better than catering to the Southland!dbackjon wrote:

And GSU and JMU and Furman and any other team that has the best chance to get there. The list of teams that have played in the CG in the last 10 years isn't that long. There's Montana and a bunch of teams that are much closer to Chatty (we can have it in Charleston if you prefer and assuming the NCAA ignores the NAACP). The last team to make the CG that is close enough to Frisco to have an impact on attendance was McNeese in 2002 and 1997. The last Texas team to make the finals... You guys don't get it, its all about the Benjamins - $$$$$ and that's why the game is in Frisco. The NCAA is not a non-profit organization. They could play literally in front of an empty house in Frisco & still make out better than they do in Chatty.

The title game could always move back east, just find a more attractive site to put it at. For now lets give Frisco one year before bashing it.

Re: Championship Game - Cotton Bowl
One thing that will improve attendence is the timing of the game. I think this will help all fans.
I know that as a Montana fan if the games the last 2 years had 2-3 weeks advanced notice, I probably would have gone. The expense of the tickets on short notice and getting time of work was a killer.
The price difference from PDX to Chatty or DFW is only about $30 right now for game day.
A plus for Frisco is that the location in the heart of the southland pretty much ensures that it will be a neutral sight for all teams involved. There won't be any participating teams close enough to overrun the stadium

I think a return to the Boardwalk Bowl would be a blast, too bad the building was a dump even back then. I was lucky enough to attend all the Atlantic City games, including the one where Grambling man-handled my Hens.
I think about 9 members of the Tigers went from playing that Saturday in December to starting the next day in the NFL.

Not being critical at all but do you have the references to back up this statement? I just don't recall the NCAA talking much about finances publicly.bluehenbillk wrote: The NCAA was losing money hand over foot in Chatty, they've said numerous times they're in a better financial situation in Frisco before the 1st ticket gets sold. Re: Championship Game - Cotton Bowl
Prior to the NC game the NCAA takes 75% of the gate at every playoff game or the minimum bid from the hosting school; whichever is higher. The final numbers for the NC game may not be know but I will give you two reasons the game is in Frisco. Pizza Hut money and Southwest Airlines money.ur2K wrote:Not being critical at all but do you have the references to back up this statement? I read something around the bid time which indicated that Frisco's bid was double Chatty's. I'll try and find it.ur2K wrote:Not being critical at all but do you have the references to back up this statement? Re: Championship Game - Cotton Bowl
I can think of 2 of the top of my head - one if you replay the ESPNU selection show they talk about it & two - there was an article I believe right before the end of the regular season where the chair of the selection committee was interviewed - I think it's the guy from Montana that talked about the NCAA losing money on the current playoff system & the fact that they moved it to Frisco to attempt to make the playoff system viable versus having to change formats. He siad having the game in Chatty was a losing proposition for the NCAA financially & Frisco offered a big change with the corporate money involved there.ur2K wrote:Not being critical at all but do you have the references to back up this statement?
