It depends on what you mean. Capacity after this offseason's construction will be the same as it has been. The addition of the end zone and upper level seating (after next year) will put it at around 25K. That's technically the first "phase", but other phases won't be seen (if at all) for years and years.

You answered my question, I meant after the upper level was complete- can't wait to see what it looks like after that 2nd deck is added.. congrats.

Comparing the drawings, specifically what appears to be an elevator shaft and where it delivers people to the second deck to the steel in the pictures, this thing is going to be every bit of 13 stories tall as reported...I can't wait to tour what to me is holy ground :thumb:

I love that the stadium is in the middle of campus and can be seen from Interstate 81 which carries a billion people through the middle of H'burg every day.

I hope no one actually looked through 300 pics of our stadium. :?
There's only one stadium in FCS that deserves to be observed at least 300 times in one sitting.... :coffee:

Post stadium renovation, I gotta believe JMU gets home games in the playoffs especially if they are televised to show off a nice FCS stadium to casual viewers.

The lighting will be TV ready in place of four cranes tricked out with lights...

As a non seed vs another non seed yes UNLESS it was ASU or Montana, possibly UD. Call me a pessimist, but I don't think will break 20k avg attendance in the 1st several years. 1st year could sell out 1st game and Parents' weekend.

Gotta remember, last 2 playoffs seasons:
07' when capacity was 14.5k, didn't sell out 3 games, including the 1st home game vs then #5 UNH (14021), homecoming vs UR (14,009) and Towson (13,661)

08' when capacity was upped to 15.5k, avg just under 16k for the regular season:
NCCU: 15,518
UMass: 15,747
ASU: 17,163
Hofstra (Parents'): 16,109
UD (HC): 16,810
W&M: 14,330 (only non sellout in regular season)
Only sold out 1 of 3 playoff games- the semis vs Montana. (At least if you're top 12 and get a bye you don't have to play a 1st round game on Thanksgiving weekend when attendance is always down).

A lot of what goes determining financial bids to host is attendance. So I would say that when JMU is a non seed paired up with another non seed, JMU will go from the majority of the time going on the road, to hosting 80-90% of the time.

Like I said, come 2011 for at least the next 4-5 years after, if JMU and ASU are paired up, both as non seeds, JMU will still be on the road. Only team east of the Mississippi that JMU definitely won't be able to outbid, not when ASU avg almost 26k regular season last yr.

Even within conference, though, you wonder if JMU would be able to outbid UD or ODU. JMU's new stadium is only going to be a hair larger than both (JMU's 24.5k versus UD's 22k or ODU's 20k) and both the latter are likely to make incremental additions in the near future (UD's supposed to detail additions to the current stadium this Fall and if ODU keeps the incredible pace of season tix sales then they'll do the same). And bidding is more than just overall attendance, it's still actual money - the reason JMU's been on the road as much as they have has at least partly been due to lowballing the bid - I mean, Lehigh outbid them in '04 somehow and Lehigh's attendance was just so-so.

Yes, and that lowballing was why the administration bid aggressively before knowing we would be seeded in 08. They actually made about $36k from those playoffs which has prompted them to say they will bid in the same way in the future.

And unless the rules change for conference matchups, why would the ability of UD or ODU being able to buy a home game affect us?

Second round and beyond would matter. And BDK's the first one that mentioned UD. And as BDK mentioned, I don't think we'll outdraw UD or ODU anytime in the near future.

Give me a break about that.
1987' 1st round #7 JMU @ #13 Marshall. Marshall won and went all the way to the NC game. JMU back then was never going to be able to outbid Marshall.

1991' 1st round JMU @ #4 seed UD. JMU won, hosted Samfords in the quarterfinals, lost 24-21, so must have put in a decent bid.

1994' JMU hosted 1st round win over Troy State. Lost @ #2 seed Marshall in OT in the quarterfinals. So JMU must have put in a good bid that yr.

1995' 1st round lost @ #1 seed ASU, so don't know what kind of bid JMU put in that year.

1999' 1st round lost @ Troy State. Don't know what size bid JMU put in, but Troy State announced the next yr they were moving up, so they probably had a big bid.

2004' 1st round JMU won @ Lehigh. Yes, apparently JMU put in a shitty bid. The quarterfinals and semis it didn't matter when JMU won @ #2 seeded Furman and #4 seeded W&M.

2006' 1st round JMU lost @ #4 seed YSU. JMU AD claimed JMU put in a substantial bid, but it didn't matter as JMU was matched up with a seeded YSU.

2007' JMU lost @ ASU. Again JMU AD claimed a substantial bid was made, but as we all know, no one is going to be able to outbid ASU with the possible exception of Montana.

08' JMU was the #1 seed so it didn't matter.

So thats only ONE year we know of that JMU put in a shitty bid, in 04', that definitely cost a home game. And it hasn't happened since, and won't happen again.

Are people really mentioned 'ODU' and 'bidding' in the same sentence?? Come on people...they need to win a few games in the CAA first before they can even begin sniffing at the playoffs, let alone bidding on a home playoff game

Well, that does ignore the widespread feeling that teams with big attendance and big bids have gotten favorable seedings and matchups in the past to ensure that they have an opportunity to host. It certainly happened a lot in the late 80's and 90's and I wouldn't doubt that it plays a part today. This whole process is very far from transparent, and probably for a reason.
