I propose....if the big sky teams went fbs individually... they would get eaten alive, but as a conference.... all 9 teams would be able to ride training wheels into fbs [[bc they would have the EXACT same schedules as they have now]] they would automatically be playing fbs team in conference AND WINNING. this leads to eash team slowly getting better recruits, facilities, more media attention and of course.. maximize the school's profits. damn im a great!

Re: BIG SKY CONF to FBS?!
It's not even good discussion material. The BSC is not even a strong FCS conference. There are only three of the nine teams that have a .500 record over the last 5 years. The concept of moving up teams that can't keep their head above water in FCS and can't average even 8000 fans, is absurd.Ursus A. They (Montana) wouldn't get eaten alive in the FBS. If they were in the WAC they'd be 5th outta 10. Maybe 6th if La.Tech or SJSU had a real good year or something.
WTF we play EWU? why? What happened to anyone anywhere anytime? Bastards won't schedule us so we get EWU.

Well whatever you think is fine by me, but it has 30 posts in it with arguments why one guy thinks it could work and others saying why it couldn't and that it's even absurd. A good discussion topic to me is one in which people are discussing something with opposing points of view. Therefore absurd doesn't make it a bad discussion topic in my book.kemajic wrote:It's not even good discussion material. The BSC is not even a strong FCS conference. My friend, I implore you to stop this hackery. I know you to be a smart feller with much more in your tank than this. It's so old and overused that it rarely even gets a response anymore. I responded this time as I feel bad for you when I see you going down this road again. There has got to be some new angle you could take other than our ability to make a comparative shit load of money when we have a home game.Appaholic wrote:Never happen....would require Montana to play away games....surely you jest....

Re: BIG SKY CONF to FBS?!
There have been many schools whom have made the jump from FCS to FBS, some successful [Boise state, South Florida] but mostly not so successful[ Nevada, Florida Atlantic]. Now having said that, its well known that one team moving up into a foreign FBS conference from the FCS level is 90% destined for at least 10 years of mediocrity. However if an entire conference became FBS, one could safely assume the conference standings will be very similar to what they have been in the past, despite the jump from FCS to FBS. This allows a team like Montana State to successfully ride the training wheels in to FBS *AND* keep a winning record in tact in the process. Now I know there are alot of you who think "But they will get eaten alive by other FBS teams!" I say, probably not!
MSU usually wins 6 conference games per year, now even after the Big Sky moves to FBS MSU is still playing the same 8 conference teams, so one can also safely assume MSU will win [on average] the same 6 conference games per year. At this point MSU is 6-2 in conference play, which is great, but they have to play 12 reg season games so they need to play four other teams @ the FBS level.
The best solution is one big money game, 2 lower level mid major teams, and one FCS home game. This is well within the growing trend of FBS teams playing FCS games. In 2009 season there are 70 FBS teams with at least one FCS game scheduled, there are lots of FBS teams with two FCS teams scheduled, which shows a growing trend, & a closing gap between the divisions.
So Montana State's schedule would look like this:
WEEK-TEAM-LIKELY OUTCOME
1.Mizzou-Loss
2.Boise St.-Loss
3.Utah St.-Close Win
4.Southern Utah-Win
5.ISU/Conf-Win
6.UNC/Conf-Win
7.PSU/Conf-Win
8.WSU/Conf-Win
9.CSUS/Conf-Win
10.NAU/Conf-Win
11.EWU/Conf-Loss
12.UM/Rival-Loss
Regular Season Results @ FBS level= 8-4
+Increased fan base
+better recruits
+better facilities
+more money to athletic department
+more athletic prestige
+more attention from the national media

Bowl games... Some company would sponsor a bowl[since according to the ncaa, football/bowl game attendance is soaring even during a recession] and it could be 1st place Big Sky team vs 2nd or third place Sun belt....

No, the idea itself is next to brilliant *AND* true, in theory.clenz wrote: This idea is moronic.

How in the fvck are communism AND ESPECIALLY TITLE 9 great in theory, when title 9 supports womens watered down sports and takes away mens sports?clenz wrote: communism, and Title 9 are also great in theory.

No, in theory Title IX is a great idea. If you would get past the obvious downfalls of the implimentation and practice of it you would see that it is indeed good in theory.BlackFalkin wrote:How in the fvck are communism AND ESPECIALLY TITLE 9 great in theory, when title 9 gives allows womens watered down sports and takes away mens sports?clenz wrote: communism, and Title 9 are also great in theory. You are a goddamn idiot.. or a feminist douchebag! I fail to see how giving opportunities to women is a bad thing. The way that Title IX in implimented is horrible, I agree.

Hey Appalachian played there too last year! Montana/App. State have a combined record of 1-1 this year at JMU. Appaholic will invariably say that we would not have played there unless forced to by the playoffs while they went there willingly in their OOC schedule.
