Either Mercer gets a little bit of credit or we suck. The Cats wrote:It should still be a blowout, even with a back up quarterback. IMO, you are giving Mercer and Lamb way to much credit at this point.OL FU wrote: Furman at Mercer I have been concerned the the right confluence of odd events might make it tough for Furman in Macon. FU overlooking them, first Mercer SoCon game, Mercer improving from last year, Bobby Lamb revenge factor and then all of a sudden, our QB is out for the year. But, I would have thought Mercer might have made a better showing against a D3 team last week ( at least I think they are D3) and our defense looked pretty stout. I could be wrong and I don't think it will be a blow out with a back up quarter back (Fowler will play it safe), but I ain't too worried.
After all, they beat a 2d year, NAIA team by only 3 points - they could have easily lost that one. If it's not a very wide margin of victory for the Paladins, Furman's gonna have problems this season.

I think I'll go with a little of both.OL FU wrote:Either Mercer gets a little bit of credit or we suck. The Cats wrote:

On paper, they shouldn't have been able to hang with Furman. Maybe, the Paladins were looking past Mercer?

I think it was more that they were sky high for us. I don't think we were looking past, but I do think we have offensive issues. We can move the ball (not great but still move it) we just don't seem to be able to maintain the drive into the endzone. You can't get in the redzone have three FGs, 1 TD and 1 turnover.

The Vermin, i.e., Gary Wilkins, pulled one out of their collective derrières. Your fight with VMI for the "Cellar of the SoCon" is safe with no fear of interdiction from the Bears.
When they polish-up their offense, respectability looms for Mercer. Their D shut-down Furman in the 2nd half, and bowed-up a few solid times when needed in the first half.
Furman will go as far as Dillon Woodruff takes 'em. They might do good.
