NDSU has an awesome defense against the run, but are not set up to play catch up. A quick strike offense that gets ahead can win. Watching the Bison, it is amazing how the get out of bad situations by Jensen running the draw. That one play has been amazing for them.

I would add Maine to that list
Haven't seen them play, but from what I here you are correct.

EWU better hope they get in the opposite bracket cus they will not make it past the semis if they are in the Bison's bracket. Like I said, I like the Bison's chance for a 3-peat.
NDSU could be beat by one of these scoring machine teams. The Bison have the best defense in the league. That is not disputed. Though as was posted elsewhere, NDSU would probably be sunk if they fell far behind with a few big passing plays. NDSU has a plodding offense which is best suited for ball control and untested at playing catch up. I too like NDSU's chances for a 3-peat. They will probably do it. Though I'd like to see how they'd fare in a playoff match up versus EWU or Eastern Illinois. I think a quick strike offense is the only type of team who has a chance against them.

Ya, no disagreement from me. The Bison are not 'suited' to play catch-up in a game. They will pound the ball and play field position.

Teams like SHSU-EIU-EWU could be teams that give the Bison trouble but those teams have to play defense also and games are still 4 quarters. SHSU averaged 44.5 points/game last year and the Bison held that quick-strike offense to 13 points.....6 points in '11. In the playoffs I'll take a ground and pound methodical offense and stingy defense over a flashy spread type offense with an average defense....but that is just me.

Teams that give the Bison the most trouble are teams like Wofford and Georgia Southern....teams that have very good ground attacks. The team that has run the best on the Bison this year was a D2 team in Ferris State that runs the veer. NDSU's D-line is very good and they are even better when a team just throws the ball 40-50 times letting them just take off and rush the passer.

We'll see how the brackets shake out.

Yeah, I do, too, NW. But, it ain't gonna happen; they'll lose in the playoffs short of the NC. NDSU won their titles during a precipitously down period for FCS. The other teams at the top have caught up. No one gets past EWU this season.
Please explain why the FCS was 'down' the last 2 years. I hope NDSU gets matched up with EWU and their very mediocre defense. Their offense is very good but their defense is nothing like NDSU's. Same with EIU, very mediocre defense. NDSU gives up 12.5 points/game.....I'll take that anyday.

In my opinion, EWU is very capable of beating NDSU, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Youngstown does it.

Our defense doesn't have stellar numbers, but part of that is who we've played. I imagine Montana has a slightly different perception of our front 7 after last week.

U can't compete at the FBS level on a week to week basis. U wouldn't be undefeated in the big sky conference. Bring ya ass to a real conference like North Dakota did. At least they had some balls. Ya baby-back bizon bitches.
I pray for an NDSU vs. EWU playoff game!!!! But EWU will probably let some team from the south hang 50 on them and lose a close one before they get to us!
I'd like to see this as well. And just for the hell of it, I'd like to watch it televised from the FargoDome just so we can put this whole 2010 thing to rest.

Ya, both EWU and YSU area capable of beating the Bison. I'm saying come playoff time when the pressure is turned up a few notches, I would take the better defensive team. Plus, the Bison offense is not exactly anemic; both passing and running games are pretty good.

I'm not buying it ...

If you said 'Top 50' (or Top 75) I think you could better make your case.

No arguments here. NDSU is the best team in the FCS the past three seasons. My point is that even the best teams are capable of losing. I would generally take a really good defense and a serviceable offense over a really good offense and a so-so defense.

With that said, our defense is not as bad as people are saying. There is A LOT of talent there; the stats are somewhat skewed because we've played a bunch of really good offensive teams. SHSU smoked us, no excuses there, but you could see how well this defense can play through the first three quarters of the Montana game. Totally shut down their running game. Granted, Montana had some success throwing the ball in the 4th. I won't completely blame that on injuries, but we lost 2 safeties in that game and had a walk-on true Freshman playing in there. Point is, our defense will be just fine and our offense is very difficult to prepare for because we do a lot of different things.
