I think DII wins now count for the selection committee. EWU will have the 1 or 2 seed this year.
Maybe, although not likely. The Sky is going to be brutal this season. I wouldn't be surprised at all if we dropped a game or two in conference play. Very tough schedule this season.

I thought they said that at least one play down game would count now?

Not sure. I think what they said is that they would consider DII games when it comes to determining SoS. Did the selection committee ever actually come out and say that they'd count one DII game towards the total win requirement for playoff eligibility? Wasn't tracking that.

Of the three remaining OOC games, the only one I am highly confident of winning is WOU. That opinion is shared by most. I actually think the most likely outcome is we drop one of those games and start off 3-1, which I am ok with. Both Toledo and SHSU will be huge challenges because they are back-to-back road games against two very good teams. Fatigue will be a factor, as will the limits in the travel roster.

We do need to beat one of them, though, because the WOU game is a non-counter and at this point we need 7 more DI wins to make the playoffs. The likelyhood of going through the Big Sky without more than 1 loss isn't very big, meaning we need to get a split with Toledo and SHSU.

Agreed with most, however they're not quite back to back, as we get a bye inbetween them to rest up. Also, with the SoS consideration with the selection committee this year, I'm not so sure WOU is a non counter. As long as we get into the 7-8 win range, the win over a ranked BCS team will certainly help mitigate a win over a D-II.
Yep, forgot about the bye week. That may help things some although I am always weary of playing a tough opponent coming off a bye week.

Your right
In a surprise move that blindsided almost everybody including NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor, the FCS Championships Committee last week approved a new ratings system to gauge the quality of a team’s schedule. It will take into account games with Football Bowl Subdivision, FCS and Division II opponents.

The expansion of the FCS playoff field from 20 to 24 teams was a reason cited for the change, Taylor said.

“There will be levels of strength of schedule,” Taylor said. “For instance, a Division II win will not count as much as an FBS win. Home wins and road wins are also counted differently.”

Taylor said the exact formula still needs to be finalized, so it has yet to be publically released.

As am I. On the one hand, you get a chance to heal injuries, but on the other, gives players time to lose focus and get out of rhythm. Gotta stay disciplined and focused.

Sam Houston is a good team but they'll be coming off a somewhat fresh ass-beating from Heisman trophy winner Johnny Manzel and the gang so they'll be hurting and not in best form to face the Eagles. ALSO!!!! I saw Eastern come right back on sam Houston last year and they (shsu) were lucky to get out alive. I think EASTERN WINS EASILY AGAINST THE bearkats. That's right, im predicting a double digit win. 4-0 boi. :coffee:
Another thing that might factor in is how humid it is. September 28 is kind of getting into the fall. I know in watching McNeese over many years I'm convinced that Big Sky teams that come down here in early September have problems with the heat/humidity combination. I think they definitely fade as the game goes on. I also think it just flat makes them uncomfortable. I looked at Eastern Washington's roster and saw a bunch of Washington, a bunch of California, some Oregon, and a little bit of Idaho. If it's like it is right now down here when the game is played it's going to be something they're not accustomed to.

And I do think that kind of thing makes a difference. Like I think it's helped Montana historically when Southern teams have gone up there and it' been cold as hell as well as high altitude. Like the last time SFA went. I think it disrupts concentration. Players are thinking about how damned uncomfortable they are.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

You know what... I actually agree with you.. humidity can be a factor and it can effect the outcome of a game, HOWEVER EASTERN HAS LOST ONE TOO MANY GAMES TO sam Houston and its fxcking payback time.. shsu BARELY SQUEAKED THAT FART of a 3 point win OUT! Just freakin barely bro; they wont be so lucky this time. You better believe shsu is more worried than EWU, bc EWU has nothing to lose and everything to gain IN THIS MATCHUP. shsu is in the more favorable situation but it will be their downfall and u quote me on that!
