As for my thoughts on the poll,

Too high:

3. Montana State - Have we not learned anything the last three years? :dunce: Plus they lost their 2 best D-Line players.
4. South Dakota State - Great running team, but I don't think they're the 4th best in FCS.
7. Central Arkansas - I feel like we were told they'd be great last year, and they ended up under-performing.
13. Northern Iowa - 5-6 teams need to earn it, first. 20-25 would be okay in my book. Same for Montana.

Too low:

1. North Dakota State - :kisswink:
10. Sam Houston State - They lost a lot on D, but not a lot on O. I think Fritz will have them in it, regardless. Still see them winning the Southland.
12. Appalachian State - Honestly, I think Satterfield makes them even better. Should be top 10 for sure.

Will be surprised if any of these teams finish that high, unless they don't play anyone.

Lehigh will be ranked by the end of September, if not sooner.

The PL has 3 teams that deserve Top 25 consideration, Lehigh, Colgate and Fordham. I think there's a good chance, like last year, two end up in the final poll.

 Hey, I have NAU in that list. My prediction for NAU... they will go 5-1 to start the season and miss the playoffs. I don't know how many times you have to be hit in the nuts with a rake before you stop stepping on it.

I read that rag yesterday and I can say without any hesitation it isn't worth the paper it is printed on. Even the comments on the different teams and conferences were off the mark.

Andre Broadous and Deonte Williams were/are great players and will be missed but Cal Poly has more experience and talent coming back this year than they have had in the last 5 + years.

In addition, they may have more talent at QB amongst the 4 competing for the job than they have ever had ....and I mean ever.... like ever ever. ;)
You still have nearly 0 college experience between any of them. Don't tell me what they did in high school. Every DI QB's stats in high school were good. That's why he's DI.

You lost your top two (for sure, and I think I read maybe three?) scorers from last year. The QB makes your team because of the nature of your offense. Your team is good overall, but it's not crazy for people to take a "wait and see" approach to a team with no experience at QB coming back.

Look at Montana the last two years (and you'll see again this year) at how big a difference a competent and experienced QB makes. We have/had a similarly complicated offense that revolves around the QB making quick, smart decisions. Lose the QB, and everything can go bad in a hurry.

I'm not ready to say you're better than last year due to that fact alone. IF the next QB turns out to be all world for Poly, then by all means crow away, but there's no evidence right now to say he will be.
I completely agree with that........I simply was responding to them not making the top 25; not saying they will be better than last year. They did lose their top two scorers (not 3) including Broadous who ran the O but they return 18 starters from last year's team.

Yeah, I think they have potential, but I'd put them at 20-25, at best right now. Same as Montana.

I'm shocked to see Coastal even listed. I love my team but, not at 15.

Take his big runs away and he wasn't impressive. Now the big ones still happened so it is what it is.

In his games against UNI, SIU, NDSU, and ysu (5 games) he went for only 337 yards on 83 carries...4.0 yards per carry.

Good for him and his offense funding a way for him to break big runs against UCDavis, WIU, ISUB, MSU, EIU and USD...

I don't see him having that many 60 yard runs again this year

Sent from my SCH-R530U using Tapatalk 2

You want to go that route then take the 2 NDSU games out where he had 29 carries for 89 yds in 2 games and he had 54 carries for 248 yds for a 4.6 ave against UNI-SIU-YSU. I'm sure most coaches would take a 4.6 yd/carry against those teams.

SDSU plays 12 games this year. He'll easily go for 1500 +
Don't lump us in with those chumps at UNI/YSU. :ohno:

ZZ ran for 49 yards on 17 carries against SIU, 2.9 ypc., long of 19. :thumb:

Which leaves 37 carries for 199 yards against UNI/YSU, 5.3 ypc. :coffee:

ZZ is a good RB but not a great one, except when he plays UNI.

Somehow the most awesome, greatest football team ever take the gridiron is missing from the list. No, not The Citadel. Not James Madison. I'm talking about a school that when you hear "Football" you instantly think of "Success", "Dominating" and "Without peer." I'm talking about a school that time and time again has shown itself to not only master the game, but to make all its opponents drop their respective programs.
Spoiler: show
I am, of course, talking about THE Princeton Tigers. :shocker: :shocker: :shocker: :shocker:  :finger: :finger: :finger:

Since I'm a Southland follower I'll comment on the perceptions that Central Arkansas is rated too high and Sam Houston State rated too low.

I think Central Arkansas probably IS rated a little too high at #7. On the other hand, the Bears did beat Sam Houston State last season to win the Southland automatic bid and they were very competitive at Georgia Southern in the playoffs. I don't know if Sam Houston State would've done any better playing at Statesboro and I suspect probably not. North Dakota State was very fortunate to beat Georgia Southern at the Fargo Dome. Central Arkansas has a very dangerous quarterback who was young last year and will probably be better this year. Since he's from Louisiana (led Destrehan High to a State AAAAA title) it frosts me that he ended up at Central Arkansas and I can't for the life of me think of why he wanted to go to Conway, Arkansas. But he IS good. Very efficient passer and very dangerous running the football.

I do not think Sam Houston State is rated too low. I think this past season showed that good teams are catching up to their unusual offense and they lost a lot on defense. Plus they lost a very good defensive coordinator.

And, yes, I have at least seen Conway Arkansas. Drove through there going to and from Kansas City this past Spring. Why a kid from the New Orleans vicinity would ever go there is totally beyond me. Surely he had other alternatives and if he did I just flat don't understand it.
