Intersting blog post that alludes to the ripple that almost happened but didn't...
http://milehighmids.tumblr.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; But joining the WAC began looking less and less like a “dream” almost immediately after that celebratory day. Indeed, the first warning sign occurred on the very day of the announcement, when then-commissioner Karl Benson revealed during a press teleconference, conducted from an office at DU’s Ritchie Center mere minutes before the big party/press conference, that he had hoped to announce Montana and Montana State joining the league on the same day that Denver, Texas State, and Texas-San Antonio did, but the Montana schools had backed out at the last minute.

Probably worked out for the better that they didn't join the WAC. No FCS program was going to keep those programs from bailing to calmer waters.FargoBison wrote:Intersting blog post that alludes to the ripple that almost happened but didn't...

Tulane to the Big East - all sports, ECU to Big East Football. C-USA looking more unattractive daily. ECU leaving is a blow to ODU.

A nice, tight conference, even with DU added to the mix. That WAC makeup was an absolute abortion...a bastardized conglomeration of misfits if there ever was one.FargoBison wrote:Intersting blog post that alludes to the ripple that almost happened but didn't...

You would have to think ODU is really pushing for some CAA or SoCon members to replace these.bluehenbillk wrote:Tulane to the Big East - all sports, ECU to Big East Football. C-USA looking more unattractive daily. ECU leaving is a blow to ODU.

ECU will not be hard to replace from the standpoint of TV markets.mcveyrl wrote:You would have to think ODU is really pushing for some CAA or SoCon members to replace these.bluehenbillk wrote:Tulane to the Big East - all sports, ECU to Big East Football. That's about their only drawback. I was down there for my ex-BIL's graduation and man, Dowdy Ficklen (spelling) is one awesome stadium for a non-power BCS conference.CAA Flagship wrote:ECU will not be hard to replace from the standpoint of TV markets.mcveyrl wrote:

Cool stadium, very strange though. Great that it's right there next to the main campus but there's less parking than a Grotto's Pizza. Driving through campus it just appears through the pine trees.93henfan wrote:That's about their only drawback. Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
I take it you haven't been to ODU. Talk about limited parking. Imagine plopping Delaware Stadium down in one of the blocks between Main St and Cleveland Ave for a mental image.89Hen wrote:Cool stadium, very strange though. Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
Latest rumors has the ACC disappearing.
FSU and Clemson to the Big 12.
UVA, UNC, NC ST, and Duke to the Big 10
Miami to go Indy.
BC and Wake screwed.
I guess that would mean Syracuse and Pitt are screwed as well.
This musical chairs thing is crazy.
Soon it will be three 20-24 team conferences with 2 autobids each for NCAA Championships.

It helps to know someone who has a good tailgate spot.
Can you believe that? What are the odds of me picking a spot where the guy didn't show up for that game?
Re: Conference expansion ripple to FCS
I'm still thinking it'll be four 16-team conferences and then the remaining BCS and the upper echelon FCS become the new I-AA. Just guessing, like everyone else.

Don't be hatin' on the WAC. Grand Canyon is the baddest basketball team between Kingman and Flagstaff.
Edit: Check that. It's in Phoenix. My bad. WTH? Phoenix is a looong way from the Grand Canyon.

This would be great if they were never going to do playoffs, but that's all this does. Makes for a first round.93henfan wrote:I'm still thinking it'll be four 16-team conferences and then the remaining BCS and the upper echelon FCS become the new I-AA. Just guessing, like everyone else.

Make that the baddest team from Glendale to Paradise Valley. BTW, there's only about 5 miles between the two.93henfan wrote:Don't be hatin' on the WAC. Grand Canyon is the baddest basketball team between Kingman and Flagstaff.

What on Earth is a school from Phoenix doing calling themselves Grand Canyon U? I drove by the place once and I figured it was something like a vocational college for massage or something like that.
