I used to think "football as a religion" was a generalization until my brother in law told me what high school football in Texas was like. $60 million dollar stadiums...insane.
Football is on a different level some places.
That example is insane, but is much more an exception rather than a rule. It is still a generalization that is easy to make, but difficult to prove.

But joining the WAC began looking less and less like a “dream” almost immediately after that celebratory day. Indeed, the first warning sign occurred on the very day of the announcement, when then-commissioner Karl Benson revealed during a press teleconference, conducted from an office at DU’s Ritchie Center mere minutes before the big party/press conference, that he had hoped to announce Montana and Montana State joining the league on the same day that Denver, Texas State, and Texas-San Antonio did, but the Montana schools had backed out at the last minute.

A nice, tight conference, even with DU added to the mix. That WAC makeup was an absolute abortion...a bastardized conglomeration of misfits if there ever was one.

That's about their only drawback. I was down there for my ex-BIL's graduation and man, Dowdy Ficklen (spelling) is one awesome stadium for a non-power BCS conference.

I take it you haven't been to ODU. Talk about limited parking. Imagine plopping Delaware Stadium down in one of the blocks between Main St and Cleveland Ave for a mental image.

Gameday experience was very good at ODU. It helps to know someone who has a good tailgate spot.
I'm still thinking it'll be four 16-team conferences and then the remaining BCS and the upper echelon FCS become the new I-AA. Just guessing, like everyone else.

This would be great if they were never going to do playoffs, but that's all this does. Makes for a first round.

What on Earth is a school from Phoenix doing calling themselves Grand Canyon U? I drove by the place once and I figured it was something like a vocational college for massage or something like that.
