Re: 2012 Early Poll
Lehigh will be a fringe Top 10 team imo. They should safely be in the Top 20. The loss of Lum and some key guys along the front 7 on defense will hurt but there's a ton of talent returning. WR Spadola, TE Haggins and the RB duo of Barket and Sherman form a group of skill guys that will rival anyone in the country. The OL will be both experienced and deep which means SR. QB Mike Colvin just needs to manage the game and let the players around him do their thing.
The defense should be solid but depth needs to be developed along the Dline. Returning are NT Sijad Chaganni who will get All-American consideration by the end of the year and DE Bianchi who got the game winning safety/sack against Towson. Besides those two there's very little game experience. The LB group will all have good experience but depth is a bit of a concern. The secondary will be exceptional. CB Bryan Andrews will challenge for AA status the rest of the group is top shelf as well.
Special teams still remains a concern. The lack of a consistent FG kicker cost Lehigh against UNH last year and really hurt them against NDSU in the playoffs.
The schedule sets up for a quick start before the Hawks enter league play. Homerism aside, it's tough to see Lehigh losing more than 2 or 3 games.

Coach, AD, suspensions, wait until the rest of the usual summertime antics... they will probably be more fine than most because they have experience in dealing with this, but there is no way I'd put them in the top 5 with this much turmoil.Vidav wrote:There will be less of an impact than people think. Re: 2012 Early Poll
In many cases like this (have there been a lot of cases like this?) I'd agree with you, Hen. It appears, though, that the Griz are seeing this "turmoil" as a rallying point, rather than as a sign of the end times. All players who were present during spring drills before the firings of Pflugrad and O'Day were still present when they came back from spring break, and the coaches have stated that none of their recruits have backed out. Also, Interim (for the 2012 season) head coach Mick Delaney had just retired this off-season, so he already knows the players and their strengths and weaknesses, and he is well-liked and respected by the players and the new recruits. Not to mention that he is keeping all systems that were in place before the coaching changeover in place, so the players already know the sets and offensive and defensive philosophies.89Hen wrote:Coach, AD, suspensions, wait until the rest of the usual summertime antics... they will probably be more fine than most because they have experience in dealing with this, but there is no way I'd put them in the top 5 with this much turmoil.Vidav wrote:

If you want to downgrade the Griz this season, the lack of seasoning at corner and on the DL is by far a better reason. The Griz lost an All-American at middle linebacker to graduation, but the player many Griz fans think is the best (and would have been the best last year) LB on the roster returns from a season-ending injury, so the LB corps will probably be every bit as good as last year's.
The offense should be as good as last year's, with a possibility of being better, assuming that nothing comes of the allegation against Jordan Johnson. So far, smoke, but no fire.
Kicker and punter are both new, so special teams are a bit of a mystery, although the punter has looked good so far.
All in all, maybe a small step back, but it's also possible that the team will just need some time to find themselves as the season begins (especially the defense). A bit of a tough schedule at the start, so they'll have to find themselves quickly, admittedly.

Yeah, UNI would be competitive with the Griz in Missoula if the Griz just gave them a 38-point head start (last two games--38-0 and 48-10, Griz).

2012 Early Poll
Okay, I made a perfectly innocuous response to Hen about why I think the Griz will be okay on the field this year, and a UNI fan has to interject what could only be seen as a snide comment about UM's "system of sweeping sexual assaults under the rug", when it was obvious that I was talking about the on-field football systems--the playbook for offense, defense, and special teams.DJH wrote:CrunchGriz wrote: Yeah, UNI would be competitive with the Griz in Missoula if the Griz just gave them a 38-point head start (last two games--38-0 and 48-10, Griz).Ah yes, there's a huge embarrassing **** RAPE scandal and cover-up at your school, but "we kicked your ass in that football game so suck on that!!!11".grizcountry420 wrote: No.. So who's the **** loser?
We all understand that UM has had more than its share of problems with player legal and disciplinary issues in the last couple of years. These issues just cost the Griz their coach and AD. No one wants those problems to continue, and the new head coach's disciplinary choices will be under a microscope, as pantherclaw surely understood before he posted.
Like we haven't heard this stuff continuously for weeks now. Like we need some wiseass from some other school to remind us of this.
And, since the original post was about the Grizzlies' prospects on the field in 2012, when your guy got snide about something not topical, we got snarky about UNI's futility on the field against the Griz.
Believe me, our little jibes didn't hurt him nearly as much as the painful realities that Griz fans have had to wade through recently have hurt us. We don't need to be hit below the belt one more time to feel deflated.
