Nor did losing our top 4 tacklers and top 2 rushers from last year, switching QBs (which turned out to be a wise move) or having our starting RB, David Deans, break his leg in the first quarter of the season opener.Mvemjsunpx wrote:The Jace Davis suspension didn't help, either.free7694 wrote:
You see, we let a guy (Scott Downing) coach our team for 5 years who was about as qualified to be the head coach of a Division I football team as as, well, anyone that has played NCAA Football on Xbox. Actually, the going theory for a while was that Downing's staff was using an Xbox in the coaches' box to call plays, but I digress.
Thanks to the Downing years, our senior class this year consisted of guys, aside from Patrick Walker, that ranged in talent from mediocre to absolutely abysmal. There was, however, a lot of talent in our freshman and sophomore classes this season and Earnest Collins pulled a class as an incoming coach that was better than anything that Downing managed.
I really think we'll improve under Collins, and quickly. A .500 record should be very doable in 2012.

For as much as you improved this year and the ability that Lobato showed in this game, I'm thinking you guys will be scary good next season.free7694 wrote:There was, however, a lot of talent in our freshman and sophomore classes this season and Earnest Collins pulled a class as an incoming coach that was better than anything that Downing managed.

Thanks for the props. I wasn't happy about Lobato being named starter because I liked Orms so much. However, it proved to be the right decision by the coaches. Lobato has a strong arm and improved on his accuracy as the season went on. He does need a better offensive line. We graduate Pat Walker but hopefully Jace Davis comes back next year. We have some good young players as noted by Free.JALMOND wrote:For as much as you improved this year and the ability that Lobato showed in this game, I'm thinking you guys will be scary good next season.free7694 wrote:There was, however, a lot of talent in our freshman and sophomore classes this season and Earnest Collins pulled a class as an incoming coach that was better than anything that Downing managed.
