NFL Draft Tidbits- Updated on Taiwan Jones/Pro Day Notes

SmallCollegeFBFan, I just wanted to bring attention to Deron Mayo from ODU. He's getting a lot of looks lately from NFL scouts. Mayo is putting up some great numbers...38'' vertical leap, 4.35 40-yard dash, and 28 reps (225 lbs) at UVA's pro-day. His only downside is his height at 5' 10.5''. He'll be part of Hampton's pro-day this week as well.

Anyways, he's someone flying under the radar to keep an eye out on.

I saw that from an article online the other day. I just don't know where he would play exactly. Maybe SS with that speed. If he can convert to SS then I think he has a chance.

Small college FB I wonder if my guy WR Ricardo Lockette(Fort Valley St)Division II has made any type of progress at playing WR it was said he had poor hands and didn't run proper routes for someone with his size (6'3" 210) and speed (4.35).I hope he's working on these areas of need obviously and hopefully that TE I think you told me about will get some looks from the NFL as you said he led the team in receptions and yards.Hope to see both of these guys on sunday playing.As stated before Lockette reminds me of a young Jimmy Smith ex-Jacksonville WR only much faster from Jackson State University.

Here's why I don't think Lockette is a NFL guy. That TE you hope gets NFL looks is 6'1 1/4, 212 pounds and ran a 4.94 and 5.02 for NFL scouts this spring. He won't get any looks and if he was their best receiver then that tells you Lockette doesn't use his athletic ability well. Lockette is a track star but not a football player IMO. He also failed a drug test at the NCAA Championships which leads me to believe he is only that good in track because of the performance enhancers he was busted for.

Those numbers on the tight end are verified. Yes, players have failed drug tests and still played in the NFL but rules are different for BCS players and D2 players. Backups from Miami have been drafted but you won't find a backup from FVSU getting drafted. Plus Sapp is 10 times better than Lockette is. I really like Lockette's potential but I think he's only a track guy right now and should be a late round or free agent type. He hasn't done anything on the field to warrant a top 100 or even top 150 pick yet.

I’ve received a lot of interest lately from different teams. I’ve been told by a couple of them that they may use a late round draft pick on me.

Here are a few notes from around the league.

Delaware SS Anthony Bratton might have gotten himself drafted at his pro day with the following results: 6001 HT, 213 WT, 4.50/4.54 40, 4.09 short shuttle, 6.70 3-cone, 37-inch VJ, 10'5 Broad Jump, 15 reps, and 32 1/4 arms.

Delaware QB Pat Devlin did not look good throwing the ball and was actually late throwing. Not saying he won't get drafted but I could see him going undrafted or in the 7th round. He won't go higher than the mid 5th round from what I'm hearing.

App State FS Mark LeGree has a private workout with the Ravens on March 29th. I'm thinking 5th or 6th round but if he runs at ASU's pro day and clocks sub 4.5s I would say 4th is possible.

Citadel CB Cortez Allen had a private workout with the Patriots recently.

EWU RB Taiwan Jones will hold a private workout for all 32 NFL teams on April 14th at 11am at Los Modanos College.

Portland State TE Julius Thomas had a great pro day where he worked out for two position coaches and was 6043, 248 pounds. His 4.64-4.68 hand times in the 40 from the Combine and his workouts have folks buzzing. I'm hearing 4th-5th round.

Central Arkansas DE Markell Carter is projected as an OLB in a 3-4 scheme and mostly 3-4 teams have him as a late round possibility. He ran in the 4.79-4.84 range at his pro day and I'm told is likely a PFA.

Fordham S Isaiah Abdul-Quddus ran a 4.41 at Fordham's pro day from what I heard and could go in the late rounds now.

Wofford S Tommy Irvin is running in the 4.70 range at pro days and projects as a box safety. Strong kid who benched 20 reps.

I would be surprised if DJ Smith is drafted. Buzz on him is not good. He's the only SoCon player at the Combine whom scouts are telling me should not get drafted.

Small college FB fan have you heard anything about two guys from Delaware St DT Andre Carrol(6-2 280) and WR Larrone Moore he's a smaller version(6-1 190) of Lockette but just as fast (4.28-4.34)unfortunately neither of them were invited to the NFL combine

The next person would be at number 84 with Cortez Allen, CB, The Citadel

Hmm, I would have thought Ijalana would be the first FCS drafted. As far as TJ goes, who knows. I think he did raise his stock quite a bit with his pro day performance.

Hey JJ. I'm not that good at picking potential teams, but wouldn't be at all surprised to see him go in the third round. Dexter McCluster went in the second round last year, and Jones is slightly bigger, and even though he's fast, might not be as fast. They're similar guys, so it will be interesting to see how his value stacks up against McCluster based on last year.

True he isn't as fast as TJ in the 40, but 4.36 ain't bad, and his 10 and 20 splits were faster than TJ's, and his vertical was 43". Again, no smack, just saying don't be disappointed if he doesn't go 2nd/3rd round. I'm sure he'll have a productive pro career.

Despite his thumb injury last season (which is completely healed) and the mediocre season of his team last year, many people are overlooking Northern Arizona QB Michael Herrick in this year's draft. Although he will probably not get drafted, he is a steal as a preferred Free Agent. He participated in the University of Hawaii's Pro Day in California in front of over 50 NFL scouts and showed increased velocity on the ball and he weighed in at a "svelt" 213 lbs (10 lbs above his season weight). Look for him to sign with a team "minutes" after Mr. Irrelevant is chosen on Saturday.

After not playing the first two games of the pre-season due to a hamstring injury, TJ is having a nice showing against the Saints tonight. Just scored his first NFL TD on a 22-yard run off right tackle. Scary, he looks just as fast in space in the NFL as he did in college.

He's currently leading all rushers with 63 yards on 11 carries, but of course sharing a lot of reps with the other backs. Unfortunately he had a couple pretty big plays negated by holding penalties.
