Apparently ASU fans don't think their team is worth the $5 price of admission. They have to turn them away when it's free admission, but charge $5 and people suddenly have better things to do.

I was really disapointed in the attendance at the App game too. The matchup with Nova was to me the most attractive playoff match-up at The Rock in many years. Defending National Champion, chance to see Szcur in person (saw more than I wanted to see
and actually a very good weather day for tailgating and the game. Guess we on this board are just lunatic fringe when it comes to our football teams....and I will stay that way.
Re: Quarterfinal Attendance
Our student attendance was actually not that bad on Friday, even with finals going on. It will certainly dip this Saturday, as school will be out for the holidays. I do expect an uptick in attendance from Friday though, simply because a noon Saturday start is more conducive to attendance and there's a chance to see a goalpost get torn down with a win. I predict 12K for Saturday. We got 14K for the '03 semi with Wofford when students were still on campus. We will see a dropoff there, but I also think GSU will bring significantly more fans than Wofford did.kalm wrote:Why don't your students and middle aged people show up?henfan wrote:Obviously the late Friday night start and nationally televised game had the biggest impact on UD's attendance. A one armed man could see that. Interestingly enough, the Sat. prior, played in a colder wind chill, UD was the highest attended FCS playoff game of the entire weekend. It's kind of funny that people who have never set foot in Delaware Stadium proclaim to be such experts on UD FB fan demographics.![]()
We do indeed have a dedicated and loyal core of senior fans who show up like its their job, whether its traveling 11 hours by bus to some of the craphole lobsterpots in New England or flying to watch games in 4 degree windchill in Missoula, MT or rainsoaked games in Huntington, WV. They'll be there no matter what. Too bad FCS schools don't have more fans like the older UD fans, who have showed up week after week through the good and bad... unlike some people who casually snipe on message boards while seldom attending games.
And henfan, we were actually second in attendance out of the eight venues during the round of 16.
Anyone who thinks a school will pull in anywhere close to it's regular season average during a playoff game either doesn't follow the playoffs much or is wishful/delusional. Montana is probably the closest, so kudos to them. Just about everyone else loses half.

Re: Quarterfinal Attendance
UD had 15k for the semifinal game against GSU back in '00. Of course, that happened a week earlier and school was still in session. And I'm sure the tickets were much cheaper, even relatively, than they are today. But GSU will bring some fans, so that helps. UNH fans weren't going to make it down for a Friday night game last week. I think we get over 13k for this one. I know one fan who will make it this week who didn't last week.93henfan wrote:Our student attendance was actually not that bad on Friday, even with finals going on. Can't promise anything. You know those Maryland types, the closer you are in geographic proximity to Towson the weaker your hardiness as a fan. Don't forget that both ASU and UD games were on national TV (and UD was on Friday night). My theory, and it's only a theory, is that nationally televised FCS games hurt attendance worse than FBS games. I think there are some fans that like the opportunity to see their team play on national TV and will miss just for that.BearIt wrote:Rank based on % of regular season attendence:93henfan wrote:Not so good:

EWU fans represent better than UNI, ASU, and Delaware!
Throw in Montana States attendance in the 2nd round and Big Sky fans are clearly superior.

Tend to agree with this...I would have made it more of a priority to attend this playoff game had it not been on TV. If that is a question of fan loyalty, so be it....it's holidays & I have shit to do...was definitelty coming for the Semi's, but that decision was made for me by #4...mcveyrl wrote:Don't forget that both ASU and UD games were on national TV (and UD was on Friday night). Regular season avg: 15,946
Playoff avg: 14,194
1st round Wofford (Thanksgiving): 12,826
quarterfinals Nova: 13,780
semifinals Montana: 15,976
http://www.jmusports.com/fls/14400/stat ... M_ID=14400" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And that semi final vs Montana announced attendance that slightly exceeded the season avg was on a Fri night, week's notice, 30 degree kickoff temp, and Montana only had a few hundred fans. If it had been on a Sat I bet it would have approached the 17k+ App State record.
If JMU were to make a run next year similar to 08' I would expect with the new stadium and little bigger student body, alumni base and fan base, to have bigger attedance #s, and similar breakdown for any home playoff games: around 20% 1st round, 15% if hosted 2nd, and around the season avg if hosted semis.

Btw, hens fans, there was quite a line. Lots of blue hairs. The old-timers look like they'll be out in full force.

I went online an hour ago and purchased "my" seats for Saturday. Turns out the NEZ is completely GA, so I bought 4 GA tix. I would have gotten seats on the East Side, but I figured saving $40 around Christmas is a good thing. Anyone sitting on the West Side are dopes. By the fourth quarter you will be in the shade on a cold day.
