Lafayette, Lehigh, and Rutgers used to play for a brass cannon. Apparently those idiots from NJ lost it at one point.

Red beans and Rice Bowl? Seriously? I'm starting to think that our crappy 'rivalry' trophies aren't as bad as I thought.

Re: rivalry trophies
At one point, we had a bitter rivalry with the USL (now ULL or UL whatever the L they call themselves this week) and we played for a flag each year. Below, is a replica of that flag.

Of course, when the Southland moved down because of the I-AA thing they decided to stay I-A and finally decided it was beneath them to play us. The last game we played back then, they won and got the flag. After 21 years, in 1997, they decided to play us again. And in front of the 3rd largest crowd in their stadium's history (only behind the Texas A&M and Alabama games), this happened:

Hopefully, we got the original flag back but knowing those guys over there, they probably lost it or said they lost it.

Our trophy sucks comparatively to cool stuff life mountain jugs and muskets

The Capital Cup, which replaces the I-64 Trophy, reflects the historical significance of the cities of Williamsburg and Richmond as the last two capitals of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Williamsburg, home of the College of William & Mary, was established as the capital of the Virginia Colony in 1699 and served that role until it moved to Richmond in 1780 during the Revolutionary War.
The new trophy, constructed by Bunkie Trinite Trophies of Richmond, stands nearly three-feet tall, weighs 15 pounds and features a solid brass cup set atop a three-tiered maple base.
While the old I-64 Trophy was engraved with only series results dating back to 1990 (the year that trophy debuted), the new Capital Cup is emblazoned with all 119 games of the celebrated rivalry.
The Richmond-William & Mary football series began with the Spiders winning 15-0 on Nov. 19, 1898 and has been played 119 times with the Tribe holding a 59-55-5 lead.

Yep, the guys had a good time clowning around with it after the game last season. Of course, they posed a little more serious with that other trophy we got after that game.clenz wrote:Is there a guy pretending to eat out of it?

The musket is the coolest.
The Great Divide trophy is quite dissapointing. Your from Montana for christ's sake. You'd think they'd play for a real mountain, or live Grizzly, or bobcat...or wolf.

The loser gets a new job as Secretary of the US Dept of Treasury, or Chairman of the Fed, and has to change their name to Maiden Lane.

Um, the Causeway Cup is the all sports trophy, it isnt the trophy for football.Green Laser wrote:Sac State and UC Davis compete in the Causeway Cup, this year is the 57th edition. The trophy is an actual portion of the elevated Yolo Causeway which connects Sacramento and Davis. The trophy has been used for about ten years since it was taken from the Causeway during repairs. Previous to that the schools competed for an old carriage.
Go Hornets!!!!
The winner of the Causeway Classic (annual rivalry football game) gets the Causeway Carriage. It's a victorian era carriage that sits in the student union of the winning school. It's been around a lot longer than the 5 year old Causeway Cup. It's also quite possibly the biggest trophy for a rivalry game around.

The live Bears and Bobcats are kept under the stadiums with trap doors to the surface. This makes the game more interesting, because instead of the ref's throwing flags, they release the animals for the duration of the play. Like the coliseum in its hay-day.kalm wrote:The musket is the coolest.

Battle for Chief Caddo
It's the annual "Battle for Chief Caddo," The biggest trophy in sports, standing 7-foot-6, and weighing in at 320 pounds. It is a solid wood statue of a mythical Native American that represents the heritage of the region and particularly of the communities which are home to both institutions! NSU! LETS GET IT!!!
