Come on...would you go along with someone if they said Tonson College vs. Rhode Island was the GOTW just because they are both CAA and just because they said so? How about a 3-loss Sacred City, after only 5 weeks of play, vs. NAU? Didn't think so.chris wrote:i was unaware that GOTW was such a big deal... my apologiesbandl wrote: Either way...simply stating a game is GOTW without a vote is a sham. it was the matchup of the two highest ranked teams in the TSN FCS Poll. Pretty cut and dry in that aspect
but I agree, things will go back to the voting process, thanks for the recommendation.

Then shouldn't you put "TSN" in the header instead of "CS"? That's a little misleading. And why don't we use the poll that CS users vote in? And why are we using TSN's poll anyways, since everyone here knows it is a joke?chris wrote:it was the matchup of the two highest ranked teams in the TSN FCS Poll. Pretty cut and dry in that aspect

Sorry to sound like a biatch, but this is just pretty shoddy all around.

I'm just curious, why is it that a Big Fluffy that is beating up on each other indicates they are a one 1 bid conference but when it is the SoCo and CAA beating on each other it means they are three to five bid conferences. HMMMM, wish I could figure that out.
Oh well, no need. Let others think what they want and do your talking on the field.

Fureal yo, you gonna get a legit GOTW poll going or what? I'd love to volunteer to head up that thing, but since I hardly have time to even get on my computer on weekends anymore, let alone look at any scores until monday morning, I would just put the whole thing to shame.chris wrote:haha, glad you got that situation rectified

Re: Week 6 CS GOTW: #19 Elon @ #1 Appalachian State
Elon has a below-.500 record (2-3). Point one: How can they be ranked as high as they are? Point two: If they lose this week, they drop to 2-4 and, hopefully, out of the top 25. The fact that they are ranked as high as they are, shouldn't mean they are good. Somebody, the voters, are doing a poor job of evaluation. Therefore, this game is not the GOTW.
On the other hand, the NAU-EWU game features two teams with only 3 losses (NAU's only loss is to Arizona State), two of the Walter Payton Award candidates, the red turf, and last year these teams played to a 49-45 EWU win in Flagstaff (arguably the greatest game ever played in the Walkup Skydome).
Unless Elon has lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints, they don't belong in a game touted as the Game of the Week. In fact, App State beats them by 3 touchdowns.
I rest my case

Fair enough, and I don't necessarily disagree except that it has a lot of in-state bragging rights and Elon/ASU is becoming a bit of a rivalry. Elon will beat ASU eventually so it will be a big game for both parties until that happens.BigSkyFootball wrote:Elon has a below-.500 record (2-3). Yes, this would be the GOTW going on preseason rankings. By that measure, an argument could be made for UR-UNH (also both in the preseason top 10), and UNI-SIU.
The Ga Southern-Wofford SoCon game is more compelling, plus EWU-NAU in the BSC and possibly some of the MVFC matchups.
UNH-UR is compelling (not at all the GOTW) because you have two preseason top 10 teams, whose seniors have made the playoffs every year of their career, essentially playing a week 6 elimination game. The loser is almost certain to miss the playoffs.

Though I think the 'Bone Bowl'' at Paulson is the most compelling game of the week, the arguments against Elon v. Appalachian are weak at best.
1) Appalachian has a strong history as of late of throwing up real stinkers after a bye week;
2) Despite their record, Elon is still more than capable of smacking around any team in the Top 25; and
3) Scott Riddle last week:
36 of 44
416 yds
3 TDs
0 INTs

And I believe that when you (or maybe it was Willie...same person) declared that JMU/UD last week was NOT the GOTW, that sparked some pretty heavy debate too.
