Sweet Baby Jesus what the Frick just happened. Dis I just witness the Redbird D get torched for 500+ yards of passsing by a school with a nicname of the Mules?!?! Well they don't put pictures next to scores in the yearbook so winning 55-54 is better than losing 55-54
Illinois State 55
Central Missouri St 54
- Final
Illinois State 55

CMoSt. did drop 60 last game to warm up for the Redbirds... They were probably just better prepared, and obviously have a killer passing attack.

and we didn't have any pass rush at all, which will tend to expose your corners that can't coverToTheLeft wrote:CMoSt. did drop 60 last game to warm up for the Redbirds... They were probably just better prepared, and obviously have a killer passing attack.
pass defense starts with a pass rush
we didn't have one tonight

Hmmmm.... For all the talk about how great they are going to be this year, they squeak by a not so great opponent. We predicted 6th place for ILSU for a reason. We shall see if they can walk the walk.
Regardless a MVFC win is a plus, so congrats!

Just like the best FCS teams can play with FBS teams, the best DII teams can stay on the field with an FCS team.
UCM is a very good DII team.

I thought that the redbirds were most likely looking past them, but you guys make it sound like they weren't getting it done physically.

Re: 9/2 Central Missouri St @ Illinois State
We changed defensive schemes this year. With all the Big-10/FBS/BCS transfers now manning the D-line, the coaching staff is pretty confident of their ability to generate a substantial pass rush without the need to blitz. SO........... if you feel like you can get pressure without using the blitz, you have you d-backs and line backers play a 2-deep zone/cover-2/tampa-2 whatever you want to call it. Last night we didn't get any push at all up front and the QB being the smart and accurate passer that he is, simply ripped the tits off our zone.
Coach Spack is a smart guy, he'll get things straightened out before conference starts.

The team underestimated the Mules, maybe we were looking ahead to Northwestern...severalyears ago, we lost opening night to Drake cuz we were so unfocused, last night we were not focused but managed to pull it out...55-54 or 55-0, ill take it, the kids got their scare and learned NEVER to take anyone for granted...Ill take last night over a blowout anyday, so much more to take away from the game, but alot to prepare for in 9 days going to Evanston
