Re: ROOKIE FREE AGENT TRACKER
Knips and Bender are both from South Dakota State, not to be nitpicky, but they are too good to be a yappy varmint from Vermintown
Also, from tweets from the SDSU beat writer Terry Vandrovec, LB Chris Johnson is going to mini camp with the Bears and WR Glen Fox is going to mini camp for the Packers.

I think it's safe to credit the results of Biermann and Sidbury and company for that
Re: ROOKIE FREE AGENT TRACKER
I would of thought Legree and Cortez from App would of at least gotten FA looks. Undersized/speed concerns?
Re: ROOKIE FREE AGENT TRACKER
I've heard rumors (and had saw facebook updates) that UNI OL Austin Howard has signed with Philadelphia.
I've also heard that UNI DL Wes Lane was invited to the Minnesota Vikings rookie camp

Re: ROOKIE FREE AGENT TRACKER
Also Landis Williams of Maine signed with the Broncos and Jordan Stevens invited to the Lions Rookie Mini Camp in addition to Tyler Eastman signing with the Chiefs. I also think one other signed with the CFL.
Re: ROOKIE FREE AGENT TRACKER
Eight University of Northern Iowa football players will be in National Football League camps following the post-draft signing period.
Three former Panthers have inked free agent contracts, while five others have been invited by NFL teams to attend mini-camps.
Defensive end James Ruffin inked a free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Offensive tackle Austin Howard signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Safety Quentin Scott signed a free agent deal with the Chicago Bears.
Defensive tackle Wes Lane (Minnesota Vikings), running back Derrick Law (Minnesota Vikings), center Austin Steichen (Chicago Bears), wide receiver D.J. Hord (Green Bay Packers) and linebacker Elijah Hodge (Minnesota Vikings) have all been invited to free agent mini-camps later this week.

Re: ROOKIE FREE AGENT TRACKER
I know there have been a few FCS free agents signed recently, but it looks like, yet again, that the NFL has totally missed the depth of the talent pool in the FCS.

Central Connecticut State University All-American running back James Mallory has been invited to attend rookie mini-camp with the Tampa Buccaneers beginning this Friday, April 30. Mallory, who led the Blue Devils to the Northeast Conference title last season, rushed for 1,352 yards and 16 touchdowns in his final season in New Britain. He was named an All-American and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given each season to the top player in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Mallory will leave on Thursday to head to Tampa and participate in the weekend long camp. If he performs well, he will have a chance to sign a free agent deal with the Buccaneers and then have a chance to make the roster.

Former Central Connecticut running back James Mallory didn’t get to hear his name called during the 2010 NFL Draft, but that doesn’t mean he won’t get the chance to fulfill his dream.
Mallory has been invited to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie mini-camp this weekend. If he does well, he will get the chance to sign a free agent contract with the Bucs and participate in their offseason programs. The eventual goal is earning a trip to the team’s training camp in the summer.
“I’m ready, I’m pumped,” Mallory said. “[The Bucs] came in kind of late. They weren’t one of the teams that I thought would take me. But it’s a great surprise.”
While he might have believed his chance would come with a team in the northeast, Mallory certainly has no problem changing gears and heading to Tampa. He leaves Thursday for the camp, which runs through Sunday.
“I just wanted to play football. It’s a pleasure to even get the chance to play for any of the 32 teams in the National Football League,” Mallory said. “I’ve been ready for this since I started playing, really. I was six years old. Now the chance is here. I’m blessed.”
The Buccaneers were one of several teams who offered Mallory the chance to come to mini-camp, according to his agent, Ray Brownell. But the Bucs might give Mallory his best chance to play on Sundays.
“When we weighed the options for him in terms of getting the chance to get a [contract offer], this seemed to make the most sense,” Brownell said. “We want to put him in position to be successful like we do with all our clients.”
One of the reasons Tampa seemed like the best fit was that they liked Mallory’s willingness to play special teams. Mallory, who blocked two punts in a game this season, was on just about all of Central’s special teams units despite being the Blue Devils’ featured running back.
“His ability and willingness to play special teams is a huge plus for him,” Brownell said. “The fact that he enjoys special teams is what got him attention. His versatility was a huge factor.”
Mallory would be fine with a Steve Tasker-type role and thinks he’d thrive at it.
“I’m going to be a special teams beast. I’ll make the special teams coach fall in love with me,” Mallory said. “If I play special teams every play and never touch the ball [on offense] I’m fine with that. I do hope to get the chance to prove I can carry the ball, but special teams takes heart and guts and I think I’m made for that.”
If the Bucs think he’s made for the NFL, James Mallory will get the chance to take the next step towards earning a place with the team. If they don’t, it won’t be from lack of effort or passion. Mallory is getting to live a dream and he plans to make the most of it.
