Montana was the favorite. Having the #1 seed is being the favorite.
Betting lines are set simply to make the most money from the bets, not to pick a winner.
My observation is that the favorite is usually determined by the betting line, not the rankings (or seeding). I've seen many NCAA hoops results where, at least according to ESPN, a higher ranked team pulled the "upset" by beating the lower ranked team.
I guess you could argue it either way, we are kind of splitting hairs here.
Yeah, you're pry right generally speaking.
But its going to be pretty hard to convince people on here that the undefeated #1 overall seed was not supposed to win the game.

No revisionist history here...
#1 seed is the highest ranked...thus, the favorite...Montana was the highest seed two years in a row going into the NC game...and we all know the results...
If we were the highest seed last year, why did we have to go on the road to take out JMU?
Pay attention...in the NC game...

Oops...
So, did you forget that Montana got a seed last year...Richmond didn't...
Thus, they were the highest seed in the NC game last year...and the highest seed this year...
Highest seed = favorite...
Two years in a row the highest seed in the NC game loses...

Montana is actually the rumored 12th Big Ten team.

No, NDSU is a better match for the Big 12, which is a step below the CAA.

Just think of UNI as the Delaware of the mid-west.

Looks to me like UNI rides the coat-tails of teams that have never won, like SIU.

You're right. I forgot about 1983.
In fact, I don't remember much about 1983 other than I think I had a lot of fun.
