Some really interesting ideas. I too believe that FCS is the only place for SBU in the foreseeable future. I lovee that conference idea with Villanova and Delaware in it. Would be quite exciting to see that happen.

What're the chances Stony Brook tries to renew its NEC rivalry with Albany?

I would love that. It only makes sense. its a way for both schools to build their programs together.
There is a lot of overlap in student bodies (Long Island, etc..). That can only help the rivalry.

When I played at Albany, the only true rival we had was SBU.

Now, we kind of have CCSU and Monmouth, but only because they are the only team that stood in the way of conference championships.

I just don't want to see it happen in the NEC.

FBS moves need a conference. Maybe the nucleus being Charlotte, East Carolina, Old Dominion, JMU, Delaware, Appy St., Georgia St. down the road.
You can add Jacksonville State to that list.

But I'd probably drop Delaware off. I really don't think Delaware is going FBS unless they go to a BCS conference (which is very very unlikely).
Jax St. could work I guess. Temple and Marshall could work too. Who knows?
Delaware is an interesting study re: FBS. They have the attendance. Just need to add more seats and another 22 scholies. Figure another Million or so added to the budget. As an FBS team, you could get at least 2 money games per year and hope to hit a bowl every once in a while to cover the added cost. Yeah, I know, there's a lot more to it, but as an FCS, you're already wet, you might as well jump in.

Full scholarship Patriot League? With Richmond tagging along as a football affiliate?
I could see them both going to the Patriot for all sports but numerous dominoes would have to fall first for that to happen.

Delaware would not join that group.

Add Marshall and Central Florida?
