EWU will win 35-24. Not pretty, but got the job done! GO EAGLES!!!
Re: #16 EWU @ Weber State
Not pretty, but not bad, either. Save the two big plays by Weber in the 3rd and the TD in garbage time for them, we dominated them. Weber was never really in it.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:EWU will win 35-24. Not pretty, but got the job done! GO EAGLES!!!
Big props to the defense, Beumonte, Kauffman, Gant...........all with no Taiwan.
And ya gotta admit, Mitchell stepped the **** up.

Sort of. If you look at the numbers, yes. But he still tried to turn the ball over many times... surprised he got away with only one pick.EWURanger wrote:Not pretty, but not bad, either. OGDEN, Utah -- Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns to lead Eastern Washington to a 35-24 win over Weber State on Saturday.
The Eagles (3-2, 2-1 Big Sky) trailed 17-14 in the third quarter before scoring 21 unanswered points.
Mitchell completed 23 of 36 passes, and Brandon Kaufman had five receptions for 138 yards for Eastern Washington. Ashton Gant caught five passes for 110 yards and two TDs.
Weber State (2-3, 1-2) quarterback Cameron Higgins completed 25 of 44 passes for 315 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Two of Higgins' interceptions occurred inside the Eagles' 10-yard line.
Eastern Washington was without running back Taiwan Jones, whose 238.8 all-purpose yards per game leads the FCS. Jones suffered an abdominal contusion against Montana State last week.
Mike Phillips had six catches for 165 yards and a touchdown for Weber State.

No. 16 Eastern Surge Past Wildcats 35-24
Looking back on it, this was a great overall performance from everyone on the team. They stepped up and responded well to getting stomped the week before. Just like the Seahawks, EWU might allow a lot of yards but they go out to win the turnover battle. Glad that TJ didn't play and got to rest. No sense in risking his/the season.Short-handed Eagles roll up 465 yards of offense as EWU turns three Weber State interceptions into scores
Despite not playing with its biggest playmaker and yardage machine, Eastern Washington University found plenty of big plays and plenty of offense at Weber State Saturday (Oct. 2) at Stewart Stadium in Ogden, Utah.
Eastern scored 21-straight second-half points after falling behind to surge past the Wildcats 35-24 in a crucial Big Sky Conference football game. Junior quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell passed for 337 yards and four touchdowns and the defense had three interceptions that led to scores.
“It felt really good -- I was proud of the way we responded,” said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin, whose team lost 30-7 a week earlier at Montana State. “And not just today, but how we responded with great practices. We came out with a focus.”
...
Eastern finished with 465 yards of offense, and Weber State finished with 459 after having just 150 in the first half. But most importantly for the Eagles, Eastern had leads after all four quarters -- including an 11-point winning margin.
Mitchell was 23-of-36 as he finished with his first 300-yard passing game for the Eagles. He completed 14-of-19 passes in the first half and 9-of-17 in the second half.
“He took each play one at a time and kept taking what they would give him,” said Baldwin. “He took underneath routes when they were there and led us to first downs. And when it was time to go over the top he put it in spots where our guys could catch it. I thought from the get-go all the way back to the spring that he has those tools. It takes time in a new system and time getting used to things. I’m really proud of him because what he did in practice carried over into the game. He did a great job.”
...
Eastern junior running back Taiwan Jones, a Walter Payton Award candidate and the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision leader in all-purpose yards, did not play because of a pelvic contusion. He had averaged 238.8 all-purpose yards in EWU’s first four games, including an average of 129.5 yards rushing per game.
His backup, Darriell Beaumonte, rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown, and true freshman Mario Brown added 36 yards on the ground. Both also scored touchdowns on passes from Mitchell.

Re: #16 EWU @ Weber State
The turn-overs are what did it. Higgins is good when he's got time to throw, but when he's chased around he's very turn-over prone.Wildcat Ryan wrote:We are not a good football team, we are not getting better weekafter week, we are getting worse.

Re: #16 EWU @ Weber State
thats not a valid excuse for our offense; ewu has had probably one of the best d line's we've seen thus far and affected the passing game but our o line has played very well. i dont even remeber an ewu sack and even if there was one we average 1 or less sacks per game.EWURanger wrote:The turn-overs are what did it. we have many issues right now with our team. seeing how easily that game could have been a win i dont know what to expect for the remainder of the season. we get a week off this week. losing to a ranked ewu team should be nothing to be embarrassed about but your team with no taiwan and still schooling us? that is embarrassing to me.
isu next, then psu. no reason to assume we get 2 wins that this point.
coaches poll is out in less than 3 weeks for basketball

Re: #16 EWU @ Weber State
TJ is an incredible player for sure, but we do have a lot of talent on either side of the ball, as was evidenced in Saturday's game. Either way, EWU proved to all the people claiming that we're completely one dimensional that we can come out and play sound football without TJ.weberwildcat wrote:we have many issues right now with our team. seeing how easily that game could have been a win i dont know what to expect for the remainder of the season. we get a week off this week. losing to a ranked ewu team should be nothing to be embarrassed about but your team with no taiwan and still schooling us? that is embarrassing to me.
In regards to the rest of WSU's year - I think you have a brutal schedule this year with the 2 FBS schools; and that, more than anything, may affect the outcome of your season.

Re: #16 EWU @ Weber State
This week certinly added to the confusion, EWU proved that they can win without TJ?, MSU muddied the waters with a poor defensive showing?, SAC found a passing game?
All three things were a surprise at some level to me, I will wait for Jalmonds power ranking before adding more.
