Most Surprising Result: Lamar 27, (#19) McNeese St. 24 - Lamar finishes 8-4, their first winning season since restarting football in 2010.
Best Performance: (#3) North Dakota St. 38, (#20) Youngstown St. 14 - Christian Dudzik picks off 2 passes while John Crockett & Carson Wentz both run for over 100 yards as the Bison quickly end all hope of a Penguin playoff bid.
Worst Performance: (#18) Indiana St. 20, Western Illinois 34 - Mike Perish throws 4 interceptions—the same amount he had on the season before this—in what could have been another playoff-seeking choke by Indiana State.
Most Surprising Result: (#18) Indiana St. 20, Western Illinois 34 - They didn't play like they deserved it the final week, but the Sycamores became the first team in I-don't-know-how-long (ever?) to get an at-large bid with 5 losses.
Best Performance: Tennessee-Martin 37, Eastern Illinois 16 - The Skyhawks run for 308 yards and hammer a hot Eastern Illinois team on the road.
Worst Performance: Austin Peay 15, Tennessee Tech 41 - I don't know what's sadder… that the Governors were outscored by 34 points-per-game this season, or that they managed to avoid finishing last in the Ohio Valley.
Most Surprising Result: Eastern Illinois 16, Tennessee-Martin 37 - Kinda odd, given their tough schedule, that EIU's worst margin of defeat to a non-Power-5 opponent came against a team that was 5-6 coming in.

Best Performance: Jackson St. 34, Alcorn St. 31 - It didn't change anything in the conference title race, but the Tigers did manage to end a disappointing season in positive fashion.
Worst Performance: Alabama St. 30, (DII) Stillman 19 - The Hornets struggle with a DII that's been blown out by 3 other DIIs (as well as a 52-0 loss to Samford).
Most Surprising Result: Alcorn St. 31, Jackson St. 34 - I guess you could chalk this up to lack of motivation by the Braves after clinching the SWAC-East, because this result doesn't make much sense otherwise.
Most Surprising Result: Lamar 27, (#19) McNeese St. 24 - Lamar finishes 8-4, their first winning season since restarting football in 2010.
It didn't surprise me at all. McNeese was down to its third string quarterback, and it's fourth and fifth string running backs. One of its three top receivers was back but two of three were still out. Other injuries as well.
By the time McNeese entered the second half of its last win of the season against Northwestern State during which it led 31-3 at halftime but barely hung on to win the situation was one in which, as the head coach said after that game, "we were running out of players."
I've complained in the past about how McNeese always seems to have bad injury problems but this year was the worst one yet on that front. It was absolutely unbelievable. They started off with what looked like a really deep FCS team and by the time it was over they were struggling to have people to put on the field.
