JohnStOnge wrote:Well THAT sucked considerably. So now the Sun Belt has the series lead over the Southland 11-10 and you have to like their chances of moving to a 2 game cushion when Abllene Christian plays Troy in its third game (though I wouldn't be absolutely shocked if the Wildcats pull the upset).

Put me down once again for NOT being of a fan of the "Prevent the Victory" defense. In this case it may not have mattered because they didn't look like they could stop Georgia State regardless. But, hell, GO AFTER THE QUATERBACK. Go ahead and take the shot and if they score quickly at LEAST you get the ball with some time left when your own offense has also been running up and down the field all night. And you never know. With the other team out of timeouts a couple of sacks run out the clock.

Good heavens I hate the "three man rush" thing when I'm pulling for the team with the lead in that situation. I wonder if there's even any real evidence that it increases your odds of winning.
AC ran the ball (had to because GSU was out of timeouts and they had to chew up as much clock as possible) on 3rd down and came up a yard short. They decided to punt and force GSU to go the length of the field. Had they made the first down, it would have been "game over". Then there was the possibility of a fake punt on 4th and 1. Considering the upside for the program if they won, vs. the hearbreak of a close loss, it may have been worth the gamble. At the very least, the probably should have lined up on 4th down and tried to draw them offsides. Under the circumstances, they should have done something other than just lining up and punting it.

Fuck GA State. They didn't deserve to win that game.

And we invented the I-formation. I think you should do a little bit more research next time, pal.

I think they did deserve to win it because they made the plays when they had to. But looking at it from Abilene Christian standpoint there is so much to look at. Like not getting the roughing the kicker penalty on their last punt because they didn't line up properly.

But to me about the only thing they had that looked good for them on defense is that they put pretty good pressure on the passer. The guy who has a chance to be the all time sack leader at the school had two sacks and they had good pressure when they brought it. But when the game was on the line they went to the "soft" look. They rushed three and dropped eight back.

I just don't get that. I really don't. I know I'm not a coach but just from watching what happens when coaches select that strategy over the years I just don't get it. It just doesn't seem to work. Yeah if there are like 20 seconds left and the other team has the ball on its own 20 I can see it. But in a situation like last night? I just don't know.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I get ya. I suppose what I meant was...ACU is a transitional FCS school. GSU most likely has 30-40 more scholarships, and the best they could muster was a last minute win.
