*** Honors Candidate ***

2014: Listed as a backup at wide receiver on the preseason depth chart, and is expected to return kickoffs again. The College Developmental Football League gave him first team All-America accolades for the North region.

2013: Earned honorable mention All-Big Sky honors. Started 12 of EWU’s 15 games at wide receiver, and also returned eight kickoffs. He helped fill in the void of losing three prolific receivers by ranking third on the team with 47 catches for 699 yards and three touchdowns. In a return to his home state of Texas, Mitchell caught five passes for a season-high 102 yards at Sam Houston State (9/28/13) to earn team offensive player of the week honors. He scored on a 69-yard touchdown pass in the FCS Playoffs versus South Dakota State (12/7/13).

2012: He caught four passes for 32 yards as a sophomore. All of his catches came in separate games and were either nine or seven yards each. He also returned nine kickoffs for a 15.3 average, including a non-scoring 67 yarder in the FCS Playoffs against Illinois State (12/8/12). In four spring scrimmages, he caught 12 passes for 146 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

2011: Catching passes from his younger brother Bo Levi Mitchell, Cory Mitchell caught a career-high seven passes for 132 yards and a touchdown at Cal Poly (11/12/11) to earn team offensive player of the week honors. As a result, he started the first game of his career against Idaho State (11/19/11) and finished with three catches for 53 yards. Against Northern Arizona (10/8/11), he leaped high in the air to catch a 17-yard touchdown pass from his brother, who later admitted the pass was intended for another receiver. Earlier in the season against Weber State (10/1/11), Cory’s first reception of his Eastern career (seven yards) was the first time he has ever caught a pass in an organized game from his brother, who graduated from high school two years after Cory. In the spring, Cory was selected as Eastern’s co-most improved offensive player. He burst onto the scene to catch 14 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns in four spring scrimmages. In the team’s third scrimmage, he caught six passes for 148 yards and a score.

2010: Redshirted. Did not previously attend college, so he was considered a true freshman when he attended Eastern for the first time in fall 2010. He elected to work instead of attend college following his high school graduation.

HS: Graduated from Katy HS in 2006.

Personal: Interdisciplinary studies major. Born 12/12/87 in Houston, Texas. Son of Dwight Mitchell and Barbara Miller. He and his fiance, Atosha Granger, have two sons – Jhett who will turn three when EWU plays at Washington on Sept. 6 and Dash who will turn two in December.
His brother, Bo Levi, is a 2008 graduate of Katy HS and transferred to Eastern from Southern Methodist. Bo Levi won the 2011 Walter Payton Award given to the top player in the FCS, and a year earlier he led EWU to the NCAA Division I Championship.
