I haven't ventured out to the school on the Bluffs (southern as we call it in Baton Rouge), but from everything I have heard a lot of people leave after the bands halftime performance

When you have people still trying to get ON campus for a game during the third quarter, you're not going to have many people leaving the stadium. Sure a few may leave (mainly students trying to hit the clubs) early. But a lot? That is so far from true.craneac27 wrote:I haven't ventured out to the school on the Bluffs (southern as we call it in Baton Rouge), but from everything I have heard a lot of people leave after the bands halftime performance

A couple things: you could easily move the game but the decision makers would shoot that down every year. The game being played on Thanksgiving weekend is the selling point for the movers and shakers.LDopaPDX wrote:It seems like if Southern draws big crowds, they'd have money. Why would the fan base care more about a SWAC Championship than a National Championship? In theory, all they'd really have to do is bump up their schedules by a week. That way, you could win a the SWAC and compete for the real title.
The majority of the fanbase has no idea about the FCS world so the playoffs/national title means nothing to them. Not a mentality I support but that's the ugly truth.

Re: Bayou Classic 40
Fair enough, but it seems like the playoffs would build in significance very quickly to fans of the SWAC if they participated.
It seems like the playoffs mean a lot to the MEAC, and the two conferences have enough of a rivalry that it might gain some steam just through osmosis. I talk to a guy that works for Delta Airlines every time I'm in Atlanta that played for the Florida A&M national championship team, and he's always talking about winning that title. Seems like the same would be true for Southern; but you can't win if you don't play.
For Grambling, it might mean even more. It sounds like they're dying for money, so clearly what they are doing now isn't working. When you have to play games at neutral sites 17 hours away by bus, you'd think you'd try just about anything to change your situation.

If Grambling is "dying for money" how is going to the playoffs going to help that situation?LDopaPDX wrote:Fair enough, but it seems like the playoffs would build in significance very quickly to fans of the SWAC if they participated.

In that case, my statement still rings true. Students will leave early, the rest stay. Of course when you have a 2-9 and back to back 4-7 seasons, you're not going to have many fans as it it.craneac27 wrote:tampajag wrote: When you have people still trying to get ON campus for a game during the third quarter, you're not going to have many people leaving the stadium.
