    Overall: 17-16

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 5-3

Best Performance: (#17) Cal Poly 42, (#15) Northern Arizona 34 - The Mustangs rack up 503 yards on a very good defense & win the third-down battle 61%-8% in what was essentially a play-in game for the playoffs.

Worst Performance: Idaho St. 14, Weber St. 40 - The Bengal defense gives up 289 yards rushing to C.J. Tuckett in completing a season of unprecedented awfulness.

Most Surprising Result: (#15) Northern Arizona 34, (#17) Cal Poly 42 - A 2-game slide at the end was still not enough to prevent NAU from achieving their best record in 9 years.

Southland

NWST 17-34 SFA
SHSU 28-47 TAMU
EIU 30-48 UCA
LAM 0-35 MCNSE

    Overall: 15-17

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 6-3

Best Performance: (#10) Central Arkansas 48, (#24) Eastern Illinois 30 - Third down was the difference in this exceedingly rare contest between two auto-bid recipients one week before the playoffs.

Worst Performance: Nicholls St. 16, Southeastern Louisiana 35 - The Colonels have now lost 20 consecutive DI games.

    Most Surprising Result: (none)

Missouri Valley

SDK 8-31 SDKST
MIZST 13-38 UNI
NDSU 38-20 ILST
WIU 0-35 SIU
INST 6-27 YSU

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 18-12

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 12-3

Best Performance: (#1) North Dakota St. 38, (#11) Illinois St. 20 - The Bison passing game again struggles, but they still manage to outrush a tough opponent 274-111.

Worst Performance: Western Illinois 0, Southern Illinois 35 - Leathernecks just 5-17 since Matt Barr's graduation.

Most Surprising Result: Youngstown St. 27, (#18) Indiana St. 6 - While the Sycamores pull an NAU & throw another postseason bid away, the Penguins also get to spend the offseason wondering what might have been

OVC

EIU 30-48 UCA
JAXST 0-23 UF
SEMO 35-42 MUR
TSU 26-35 UTM
TTU 31-38 AP

  • NConf Record: 0-2
    Overall: 15-14

    vs. FCS: 0-1
    Overall: 11-4

Best Performance: Jacksonville St. 0, (FBS) Florida 23 - The Gamecocks never managed enough offense to threaten, but their defense did hold a top-flight SEC team to one offensive touchdown.

Worst Performance: Tennessee Tech 31, Austin Peay 38 - Trailing Austin Peay 31-0 at the half… I think that speaks for itself.

Most Surprising Result: Tennessee Tech 31, Austin Peay 38 - The last two OVC auto-bid recipients have each gone 3-8 the following season.

Patriot League

LEH 38-21 LAF
BRY 21-24 BUCK
COLG 41-39 FORD
HC 24-0 GTOWN

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 18-17

    vs. FCS: 1-0
    Overall: 17-16

Best Performance: (#14) Lehigh 38, Lafayette 21 - A 10-1 season always looks good, but the playoff selection committee still saw through the Mountain Hawks' complete & total lack of impressive wins.

Worst Performance: Georgetown 0, Holy Cross 24 - The offense just wasn't there for the Hoyas this season, as displayed by their gaining of just 196 yards against the 1-9 Crusaders.

Most Surprising Result: Holy Cross 24, Georgetown 0 - Despite the solid win, the Crusaders still end up posting the worst season of head coach Tom Gilmore's tenure.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

I love the guy, but as far as I'm concerned, the worst performance of the week had GOT to be one Morris Norisse....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Most Surprising Result: Bryant 21, Bucknell 24 - Bryant's 4-game winning streak comes to an end against a team that went winless in the Patriot League.

TOW 64-35 UNH
MAINE 55-6 URI
NOVA 41-10 UD
RICH 21-14 W&M
ODU 38-28 JMU

  • NConf Record*: 0-0
    Overall: 24-14

    vs. FCS*: 0-0
    Overall: 16-4

Best Performance: (#19) Towson 64, (#7) New Hampshire 35 - Terrance West fully reminds us of last year by running for 236 yards on just 19 carries.

Worst Performance: Rhode Island 6, Maine 55 - The Rams are used to being a doormat, but going 0-11 and only losing one game by less than 20 points (Brown) is pathetic even by Rhody standards.

Most Surprising Result: (#7) New Hampshire 35, (#19) Towson 64 - The Wildcats have this done to them at home, yet still get in the playoffs ahead of the Tigers and get a first-round bye to boot? :?

SAV 13-27 SCSU
FAMU 16-21 BCOOK (in Orlando, FL)

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 11-21

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 4-9

Best Performance: North Carolina A&T 22, NC Central 16 (OT) - Partially due to a series of bad snaps, the Aggies hold NC Central to 127 yards and minus-46 yards rushing.

Worst Performance: Morgan St. 17, Hampton 27 - The Bears lose despite forcing the Pirates into a 26.8 passing efficiency rating (4/18, 42 yds., 1 TD, 3 INTs).

Most Surprising Result: Howard 41, Delaware St. 34 - At 6-2 in the MEAC and 7-4 overall, the Bison finish with their best overall mark in 14 years and their best conference mark in 16 years.

  • NConf Record: 0-4
    Overall: 15-12

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 10-2

Best Performance: (#9) Wofford 7, (FBS) South Carolina 24 - The Terriers outgain the FBS Top-25 Gamecocks and play them even on the scoreboard until the 4th. quarter.

Worst Performance: Samford 3, (FBS) Kentucky 34 - Samford outrushed 342 to minus-2 by an FBS team whose season was in the toilet.

Most Surprising Result: Samford 3, (FBS) Kentucky 34 - With their playoff hopes on the line against a 1-9 FBS team, I expected a much better fight from the Bulldogs.

* - I know Georgia State is still technically in the CAA this year, but I'm counting them as FBS and as a non-conference opponent for CAA teams (same as UMass last season).

Tomorrow: what's left of the non-playoff conferences.
