This is a blind poll because of a debate on TXST forums. Asking who you guys would choose (for the hell of it)
All the players have been in all 7 games.

Player D, definitely. Those stats suggest a playmaker from the safety position, though I guess he could be a linebacker.

Player E has a lot of sacks, but that seems to be all he does.

It can be assumed the players' particular position would be a factor. Should I add those or wait?

It's enough to put him on pace to finish among the all-time single season leaders

Not to mention the TFL. Safe to say he's a DE

Yep. I don't know what else he would be.

Possibly, but the team clearly doesn't want him on the field in running situations.

You probably should. Certain stats are more valuable for certain positions.

I'd go with D.

But, stats are overrated.

Remember that the mike generally has an extra variable to worry about. In addition to plugging a hole (generally one of the A gaps, but perhaps one of the others depending on alignment and/or stunts), covering a receiver (or a short zone), and knowing when to dog (and through which gap to dog), the mike has an extra body to worry about: the umpire. The other officials are generally on the perimiter of play, but the umpire is right in the thick of the action next to the mike (and sometimes an invert safety). That makes the mike's play a bit more complex as he has to avoid running into the umpire while scraping or dropping into his zone. This alone makes these stats more impressive to me.

It is impossible to say without seeing them and play live or on film.

I'll give you an example: when GSU played Samford in the first game of the season I witnessed what I thought was one of the best defensive performances I've seen in recent memory by a guy who only had two tackles.

But that player ate up a minimum of two blockers all night long, stuffed the middle to the point Samford only had 61 yards rushing, and he had Taliaferro flushed from the pocket and running for his life all night- almost always to the right which effectively cut the field in half for GSU's secondary- which led to 5 sacks, 2 picks, and about a dozen throw aways.

The stats never fully illustrate Brent Russell's impact on a game, but the film sure does. That's why he's considered one of the top players in the division.

Exactly. Trumain Johnson's stats are similar to those posted.

26 tackles (19 solo) 2.5 TFL 6 BU 6 PD 1 FF

When you consider that they rarely look to his side of the field those are fantastic stats. On paper the stats are similar to those posted, but on film the scouts are saying he'll be a steal as an early 3rd round pick. He's even getting some buzz as a suprise 1st rounder.

Hey, this ain't about GSU/Samford or Montana. Can you guys just stick to the facts of the poll that I laid out and make a judgment call, sight unseen? :ohno:

SuperHornet....like the post. Have to agree with it....although I'm kind of stuck between the mike and the CB.
