As long as they aren't out dealing and shit...honestly, who cares?

Apparently Mickey Matthews does. Maybe the NCCA does too.

Toward the stadium please. We're trying to get their drunk asses closer to the stadium so maybe they'll realize a football game is being played.

Hold up.

Towson averaging over 9K at home, Delaware having issues with students not coming into the game.... :?

Andy, not getting big student attendance has been there for decades, not anything new. The crowds we draw are primarily alums, locals & local white trash.

Why in hell would we want to make it more complicated to get asses in seats? This administration boggles the mind sometimes.
Ok here's the deal. I was President of the Cockpit from 2006-2008...Graduated Spring of 2009. While I was there we wanted it to be as easy as possible for students to get into the games. So as long as they brought their UD ID card to the gate they would have it swiped and be let into the student section. If more students came than seats allowed in the student section they would be put on the goaline to five yard line on the home/away side to accommodate the overflow. We actually had a decent student turnout during those years. The leadership group of the Cockpit helped get sponsorships with the UD Bookstore, CocaCola, Dart Bus, and the UD Alumni Association to pay for our various giveaways we had. With that money we designed new shirts each season, gave them away at various football games to encourage student turnout. Then we'd use that funding to get Cockpit Bookbags, sweatpants, and hoodies that were giving out to students who accumulated games attended. It worked great and I really think we had a student section that impacted the game.

When I & the Cockpit leaders) graduated, they implemented a system we had been preventing for 3 years. Which was having to go to Trabant/Perkins Student Centers between Monday-Wednesday between 11-2pm to get a ticket to the game. Problem was, many students who did get the tickets, stayed in the tailgating lots while students who really wanted to be in the student section were denied admission because they had an "overflow ticket" in the side stands. The effort to make students come into the stadium because they already had a ticket in hand backfired.

Looks like they are getting back to what worked in the past and with even more incentives from the Players with their marketing. I saw kudos for the renewed efforts. I'd love nothing more than to see 5k strong on the W&M game.

At ASU they tried a system from 2007-2010 where you would print a ticket off online on your student account and have it scanned to get in. Of course if your printer was short of ink, it made scanning harder. This past year they got new scanners at the gates which can swipe student ID's and scan bar-codes on non-student tickets. Each student gets 2 guest tickets for $15 (in the student sections) which can be printed off. Since we have a hill, they don't limit student entry.

This is about 40 minutes before kickoff on the home opener this year.

The JMU student duke club REALLY jumpstarted the student movement at JMU. It started small in 2001 ... and until it was turned over to athletics marketing this year (from a student-run org. prior) it had almost 3,000 members every year (and they had to pay $25) ... all money went to scholarships and the sponsorships covered tshirts, etc. Students could accumulate points but just during bball season for prizes (too many attended football to give away legit prizes without losing money). SDC members got first access to tickets and priority during the playoffs ... it really was a good system ... and has created the atmosphere that now attracts 8,500 students a game.

You used to just show your JAC Card (student ID) at the gate to get in. With that method the lines used to be forever long and people would use their friend's jac cards who werent going to get friends from home in, etc. If you didn't get in you were turned away (over 2,000 turned away for App State in 2008) ....Then they started having you swipe your jac card around 2009 and admit the first 5,000 ... anyone else was SOL and got turned away (although for homecoming and family weekend you had to go to the ticket office to claim a hard copy).

Finally, last year, they implemented the current system which is best by far. Students go online starting Sunday night at 12 am two weeks prior (13 days) to the next home game. Students have an account with their student ID and "load" the ticket onto their JAc Card, which is swiped at the gate. They now allow for 8,000 student tickets but I've been told they actually give away 8,500 because they anticipate some won't come. The first home game against CCSU saw all 8,500 claimed within 8 days ... Richmond tickets were gone Monday night. Apparently within the first day over 2,000 tickets had been sold for the Maine game on Oct. 8th ... the system is perfect ... if you really want a ticket you can basically be guaranteed one within the first day ... but if you wait too long you might miss out.

"The Cockpit" - the UD student athletic fan group is sponsoring an effort to get 5,000 plus students to pack the W&M game next weekend (10/8), even giving away $5K large to one lucky student.

Great idea to help pack the Tub and send the Tribe home packing an L.

Now if we can just lure back the 4,000 season ticket holders that have left...

It'd be nice to get a full student section. It's an uphill battle though. They cross the bridge to drink in the lots, not watch what they consider small-time football in the stadium. I got a unique perspective at the first home game. I took both my sons (mistake, but a valuable lesson learned) to the game and we ended up leaving toward the end of the first quarter, after nearly getting rolled by Chris Christie. Anyway, I decided to head into Newark and I was floored by the thousands of students still in the ice arena lot and hundred and hundreds making their way back up College Ave to campus. This was the home opener, so they were basically not even giving the game a thought.

I'd go just to watch that game should be a real good one.
