Big South DBs 2011

Post by bjtheflamesfan »

Only two more units to go over before camps open across the conference and across the country so time to talk about the predators of the defense...the ballhawks...the defensive backs:

Charleston Southern
Charles James 40 Tackles (25 Solo) 1.0 TFL 6 INT (tops in BSC) 2010 Big South All Conference First Team
Demaris Freeman 23 Tackles (9 Solo) 0 INT 1 FR
Chris Kuzdale 56 Tackles 24 Solo) 1.0 TFL 1 INT 1 FR
Daniel Dieudonne 45 Tackles (18 Solo) 0.5 TFL 2 INT

Coastal Carolina
Josh Norman 56 Tackles (38 Solo) 3.0 TFL 1 INT 2010 Big South All Conference First Team
Dominique Davenport 67 Tackles (39 Solo) 4.5 TFL 6 INT 2010 Big South All Conference First Team
Tre Henderson 24 Tackles (15 Solo) 1 INT
Johnnie Houston 9 Tackles (6 Solo) 1.0 TFL 0 INT

Gardner-Webb
Lyndrez Leslie 55 Tackles (17 Solo) 5.0 TFL 2.0 Sacks 0 INT
Courtney Roundtree 51 Tackles (30 Solo) 1.5 TFL 0.5 Sacks 0 INT
Sean Davis 7 Tackles 4 Solo 0 INT
Keron Phelps 12 tackles (8 Solo) 1.5 TFL 0 INT

Liberty
Chris Mayo 37 Tackles (20 Solo) 4.0 TFL 2.0 Sacks 1 INT
Kevin Fogg 33 Tackles (26 Solo) 3.5 TFL 2.0 Sacks 2.0 INT 1 FR
Brandon Robinson 29 Tackles (13 Solo) 2.0 TFL 0 INT
Kajuan Lee 17 Tackles (12 Solo) 0 INT

Presbyterian
Justin Bethel 59 Tackles (47 Solo) 2.0 TFL 1 INT 2010 Big South All Conference Second Team
Damon Lawrence 48 Tackles (29 Solo) 2.5 TFL 0 INT
Cedric Byrd 42 Tackles (21 Solo) 0 INT
Jimmy Pruitt 27 Tackles (16 Solo 1.0 TFL 0 INT

Stony Brook
Cedrick Moore 39 Tackles (24 Solo) 0.5 TFL 3 INT
Al-Majid Hutchins 32 Tackles (19 Solo) 1 INT
Dominick Reyes 67 Tackles (40 Solo) 2.5 TFL 1 INT

VMI
Byron Allen 78 Tackles (31 Solo) 1 INT 2010 Big South All Conference Second Team
Trae Watkins 53 Tackles (26 Solo) 3.5 TFL 2 INT
Michael Johnson 41 Tackles (18 Solo) 0.5 TFL 1 INT
Michael Rainey-Wiles 32 Tackles (27 Solo) 1.0 TFL 1 INT

This is probably one of the deepest units to break down because Im looking at both CBs and Safeties. Coastal Carolina returns two first team honorees in Davenport and Norman (a good season from both and they could be getting looks for the NFL Draft for 2012), while Liberty brings in two FBS transfers who could bolster an already experienced group. With that in mind, here are my rankings, first, the team rankings:

1. Coastal Carolina
2. Liberty
3. Charleston Southern
4. Presbyterian
5. Stony Brook
6. VMI
7. Gardner-Webb

Now for the Individual:

1. Josh Norman, Coastal Carolina
2. Charles James, Charleston Southern
3. Dominique Davenport, Coastal Carolina
4. Kajuan Lee, Liberty
5. Justin Bethel, Presbyterian
6. Byron Allen, VMI
7. Cedrick Moore, Stony Brook
8. Lyndrez Leslie, Gardner-Webb
9. Damon Lawrence, Presbyterian
10. Kevin Fogg, Liberty

VMI:

Rainey-Wiles graduated after lettering 4 years.....Miguel Marshall (5'10", 196 Soph.) saw a lot of reps at CB last year. Mike Smith (5'9", 174 Soph), Juan Thrasher (5'10", 184 Sr.) and Greg Walker (5'9", 169 Sr.) will get lots of reps, too. Perhaps also a couple of new freshmen will play enough to letter.
1-AA is tops!!

Thanks for the update kd (congrats to him btw). All four of the 2011 preseason all conference DBs are in my top 10 among defensive backs: Josh Norman (#1), Justin Bethel (#5), Charles James (#2) and Byron Allen (#6).
