Journey is smooth for top Arizona pick Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie operated in relative anonymity during his four seasons at Tennessee State.
Then he went to the NFL Combine in February and showed off his blistering speed, prompting the Arizona Cardinals to pick the cornerback in the first round of the draft.
That was a life-changing experience, but nothing could have prepared Rodgers-Cromartie for what he took part in Tuesday during Super Bowl XLIII media day at Raymond James Stadium.
In a word, he was "overwhelmed."
"I'm not used to dealing all this,'' he said with a smile, surrounded by reporters from all over the world. "I'm kind of soft-spoken. Being from a small school like TSU, you don't get a lot of attention. But I am getting used to it. It's actually kind of nice.''
The best might still be yet to come. The Cardinals play the Steelers on Sunday, when he'll really be on the big stage.
"To be sitting here at the Super Bowl, it is like 'wow,' " he said. "I have to pinch myself sometimes and think 'Is this really happening?' It's like I woke up in a fantasy world. It's a blessing and something I'll cherish for the rest of my life.''
