A nice easy compromise should be to call them the Sioux w/o the fighting part. Or get rid of this bullshit rule until the Washington Redskins have to change their name, which aint happening.

What does one have to do with the other? The NCAA doesn't have any jurisdiction over the NFL.

moreover - the rule is pretty simple: get the tribe to support the name - and you're good. Florida St, Illinois, Central Michigan, Utah... all have approval from their local tribes. (my guess is that if eastern michigan had pushed the Hurons might have also gotten on board)

but given everything in ND you won't get all the tribes to get on board... not anymore. not with the hostile and angry overtones the entire debate has taken over the decade plus this has been going on.

This isn't, or shouldn't be, the legislature's business, and I doubt the UND administration or the North Dakota AG's office particularly appreciate having their limited maneuvering room restricted even further.

Ps. UND has said they are suspending efforts to comply with the original agreement until they receive further direction from the State Board of Higher Education.
