2011 UNI schedule

Post by clenz »

I know there is a schedule thread and I'll post it there but those seem to get overlooked. UNI set their schedule early this year, and we do get 5 home games this season. There was a rumor that UNI would only get 4 home games and play a second FBS game at Ohio.

Instead UNI has picked up a game (I don't know if it is a home and home, 2-1, one game only, or what) with Southern Utah. UNI has played SUU 4 times since 1996 (96, 97, 07, 08). UNI has won all four games against the Thunderbirds by an average score of 42-22.

Official release from UNI's website:
http://www.unipanthers.com/sports/m-foo ... 11aaa.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The University of Northern Iowa football team will tackle a five-game home schedule in 2011 as announced today by Director of Athletics Troy Dannen.

The Panthers will play host to Western Illinois (Sept. 24), Indiana State (Oct. 8), Southern Illinois (Oct. 22), Youngstown State (Nov. 5) and Southern Utah (Nov. 12).

"We have put together another challenging Panther football schedule and look forward to embarking on the 2011 season," UNI head coach Mark Farley said. "By having five home games it allows the Cedar Valley to support our football team as we continue to put forth one of the elite programs in the FCS."

UNI's non-conference slate of games will feature a season-opening trip to Ames, Iowa, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones on Sept. 3. The Panthers will fulfill a home-and-home series with Stephen F. Austin as the Panthers head to Nacogdoches, Texas, for a matchup with the Lumberjacks on Sept. 10.

UNI's home opener will also initiate Missouri Valley Football Conference play. The Panthers will play the Western Illinois Leathernecks Sept. 24 in the UNI-Dome. It will be the latest home opener in Panther football since a Sept. 27, 1986, home opener against Missouri State.

After a trip to Missouri State on Oct. 1, UNI will return to the confines of the UNI-Dome for its annual Homecoming game against the Indiana State Sycamores on Oct. 8.

UNI will travel to Brookings, S.D., on Oct. 15 for a contest against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

The Panthers will mark Hall of Fame Weekend on Oct. 22 when Southern Illinois comes to the UNI-Dome.

The Panthers head to Fargo, N.D., on Oct. 29 to take on the North Dakota State Bison. UNI will play host to the Youngstown State Penguins Nov. 5 in the UNI-Dome. UNI has won 10 straight games vs. the Penguins.

UNI will complete its home schedule with a non-conference tilt vs. the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. UNI is 4-0 all-time vs. Southern Utah.

UNI will close the regular season Nov. 19 in Normal, Ill., against the Illinois State Redbirds.

Good looking schedule.
Dear Lord, We come before you and humbly ask you to grant our prayer for a veil of protection to be placed over Donald Trump. May your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

Any idea when we can start buying season tickets?

I'm not him BUT

Sept. 3 at Iowa State - L
Sept. 10 at Stephen F. Austin - W/L
Sept. 17 BYE
Sept. 24 Western Illinois* - W
Oct. 1 at Missouri State* - W
Oct. 8 Indiana State* (Homecoming) - W
Oct. 15 at South Dakota State* - W
Oct. 22 Southern Illinois* (Hall of Fame) - W
Oct. 29 at North Dakota State* - W/L
Nov. 5 Youngstown State* - W
Nov. 12 Southern Utah (Senior Day) - W
Nov. 19 at Illinois State* - W

Anywhere from 10-1 to 8-3 is completely reasonable. I'd bet on 9-2. IaSU will be improved from last year, but so will UNI and UNI handed IaSU 14 points, literally. That game was much closer than the score...hell UNI actually out-gained UNI (IaSU had 2 pick 6's, a TD on a drive less than 50 yards, and a 20 yard drive or so that resulted in a FG.)

I'll hold off there. I'll put together a prediction thread for UNI and then the MVFC like I did last year.

We will win no less than 7 games, IMO. We were able to win 7 games last year, and we will be much better this year.

I agree for the most part, I would go more towards 8-3. A solid playoff team with 1 or 2 conference losses. Teams have to fight for a win every week in the MVFC. I don't see any easy games on this schedule.

I can't predict with any amount of certainty how UNI's season will go.

all depends on how the team comes together,
how the QB play unfolds (if TR improves his passing and game management in the offseason, as well as if he can avoid injuries),
and if the coaches can learn to call offensive plays that play into the strength of the offensive players, and not against them.
