Broadway Changes Mind, Takes NC A&T Football Job
GREENSBORO — Six days after initially rejecting N.C. A&T's offer, Grambling State's Rod Broadway was introduced as the Aggies' football coach Thursday afternoon.
Broadway's move was a stunning development, considering he told Grambling's president Friday he was staying put after four successful seasons.
What changed between that Friday morning conference call in Louisiana and Thursday afternoon's news conference at A&T?
"I don't know," Broadway said. "It's hard to explain."
He paused, and then he tried, quoting lyrics from jazz singer Kem Owens.
"Your mind may be made up, but your heart's got it's own plans," Broadway said. "That's the way I was. My mind was made up to stay at Grambling, but my heart strings started tugging at me to come home."
"I'm in the fourth quarter of my life, and for the first time in my life I decided to put family first instead of my job," Broadway said. "... (The death) just rang a bell for me. It's time for me to go home to my family — to my sisters and my son and my grandson — and be a part of their lives. I missed out on so many things. Understand: I'm in the fourth quarter, and I'm going to close this thing out with a bang and hopefully get this program rolling again."
It's a tall order.

Jesus - talk about screwing a bunch of people in a matter of minutes:
Grambling
Grambling 2011 recruits
NC A&T 2012 class year (impossible to get 2011 recruits now)
Wow.

$232K + car allowance?
They were 1-10, 1-7 last season. He's got his work cut out for him.

I've heard things too and let's just say that hopefully they aren't true for Grambling's sake. But there are folks who take this game a little too seriously...tampajag wrote:I've heard some things, but right now I'm still trying to sort out truth from fiction

Broadway was THE choice for the JMU job. Hold on tight A&T, and enjoy these precious moments with Rod Broadway, because once the gavels start dropping in Harrisonburg, he's going to be in the next pickup truck to Harrisonburg.

I've heard the same things online and from people offline, I think that type of thing is classless and petty.I've heard things too and let's just say that hopefully they aren't true for Grambling's sake. But there are folks who take this game a little too seriously...tampajag wrote:

That is harsh..

I agree, people in La can be quite insensitive when it comes to coaches.tampajag wrote:

In a sense I think its a good thing that he left too bad ex-Jackson State off-coordinator wasn't offered the job he like Doug Williams had a pass happy mentality.Broadway was too conservative for my taste.
