It isn't on any particular radar, but the Southland Conference is holding important meetings beginning Friday.
The SLC's university presidents will gather in Dallas to discuss several issues.
The one item that will get the most attention is expansion or conference realignment.
Last spring, the landscape of college football took dramatic turns with Football Bowl Subdivision teams switching affiliations looking for a better deal.
The fallout reached all the way down to the Football Championship Subdivision conferences.
The Southland Conference was not immune to realignment as two universities, Texas State and Texas-San Antonio, are leaving to join the Western Athletic Conference.

Not really much in the way of news other than the fact that the meetings are occurring. I agree with the writer that pressure on UTA and especially A&M-CC must be intense to add football sooner rather that later. If the Islanders were to get in motion toward football as they promised when they entered the league, then the SLC could probably ride out this drama as long as more departures don't occur.
And for the record, I'd like to see HBU get some consideration for admission even though football is nowhere on their agenda.

No on HBU...they bring nothing to the table other than location...if they were to add football, they might be more appealing but as is, it's a non-starter.Sly Fox wrote:Not really much in the way of news other than the fact that the meetings are occurring. I dunno. HBU's gotta get SOMETHING better than that overgrown behemoth known as the Great West. Travel to NJIT must be a killer.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
