Some of you take stadiums way too seriously.
Would you rather watch a game at a stadium like that high school, EWU, etc...

OR

a stadium like Wa-Griz, the Tub, the Rock, etc...

I suppose you think EWU is probably an equal or better place to see a game than the Rose Bowl, the Big House, Death Valley (either one), the Swamp, Kinnick, Doak, etc...
Wait a minute. You left out the fabulous panther dome. :wtf:

EWU is a dump. Their facilities are an embarrassment to D1 athletics.

As much as I love the dome and the advantage is can give UNI I would love an outdoor stadium that seats 20-25K built in a similar way as Brooks Stadium, Wa-Griz, the Tub.

I will defend the dome as one of the best home field advantages in all of the FCS.

The dome has had many marvelous upgrades, but it isn't that fan friendly on game day - other than real cold game days late in the season.

There are many big problems the dome has that can't be fixed because it is a some and it can't be expanded. The concourses are small and there is a serious lack of bathrooms are two things that can't be fixed that need to be. There are plenty of "bad things" that could be fixed but haven't been due to money and it not being "an emergency fix". The rainbow seats from the 70's, new scoreboards, etc...

If I had my choice between the dome and an enlarged version of Brooks Stadium/a stadium like the Tub I take the outdoor stadium every time.

They are a lot closer in quality if you use quality pictures. It is a push at the very least....which is still embarrassing for a D1 school to be on par with a high school for facilities. Outside of the temp seating at EWU, which the HS could add the exact same thing and a "fancy ticket window", there is nothing at EWU that pushes it over the HS field. Also, that high school field seats more with permanent seating than EWU does.

I'm going to let one of the Eagles fan argue with you on that one ;) I was just stating my opinion based on what I could find and see of the HS stadium in question.
Although it would have looked really nice if EWU would have put their turf on Joe Albi instead. Then they would definitely have one of the nicer stadiums in FCS

The planned expansion for Roos Field to 20k look amazing. If they continue to put teams out like they had this year, they should have no problem getting 15-20k there for most home games. Trip might think it sounds stupid but facilities play a huge part in the draw of a casual football fan, which is what FCS teams have to rely on. The casual fan looking for something to do on Saturday afternoon isn't going to go to a high school looking field to watch "division two football on a red carpet". They will, however, go watch the same team on the same red carpet if they are given a nice place to be.

Image

And before someone starts the "FCS fan bases aren't built on casual fans it's built on die-hards" crap I'll address that.

To an extent you are correct. Without the core fan base FCS, D2, D3, and NAIA football would drop a lot. I'll use UNI as an example for my point.

We have about 8,500 season ticket holders currently. At the start of the 2005 season UNI had probably 4 or 5 thousand ticket holders. With just that number of fans UNI was able to be a team that was good, but got no respect across the state of Iowa. However, since the UNI has been to the national title game, had an undefeted regular season, beat Iowa State, nearly beat Iowa, been to the national Semi's and Quarters. That success started, and the dome upgrades that made the game day experience better for fans, started bringing in the casual fan from the Cedar Valley. Those casual fans started to like what they saw on the field and the improvements being made to the dome. The casual fans started buying season tickets. Those 4,000 or 5,000 have now grown into 8,500 to 9,000 people will go to pretty much every single home game, barring circumstances where they can't make it no matter what. UNI football will survive at it's current state if our fan base remains there. However, if the dome was still in condition it was in 2005 UNI doesn't bring the recruits in (yes, facilities play a big part in recruiting believe it or not), the team doesn't maintain the success, fans don't have a real good place to watch a game and stop supporting the team, recruits see the lack of support, players see the lack of support and don't play as hard, and it snow balls.

Teams that compete with shitty facilities are few and far between. EWU has been making some big upgrades, and have some in the works. If their expansion turns out like it looks they will be a national power for a very long time.

As for the Texas textbook cracks, you are aware that the nation's textbooks are based on the decisions made here int je Lone Star State. So essentially the folks in the Great Northwest are simply along for the ride of whatever is decided here in Texas. If you don't like the more open-minded viewpoints considered here and want to live in your own singleminded world, perhaps you should move to a state that has some influence.

And catmom, Bradley George's brother Reagan was an incredible QB there back in the day as well.

They still won't draw more than 15k per game if they do that expansion. :coffee:

Open-minded implies multiple viewpoints. I sense your smug chuckles indicate you prefer just one mindset being pushed down the throats of kids. We Texans prefer to think a bit bigger. That's probably why we have the only economy that continues to grow through the recession. Think big or don't think at all.

In honor of the Texas Board of Education's diminishment of Thomas Jefferson I'm going to take my kids new text books and cross out all mention of Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh, Country Music, Newt Gingrich, Phyllis Schafly, and Joe Mccarthy. They will be just like the Jefferson bible - the nuts and bolts of the ideas minus all the superficial and crazy bull shit.

Oh, and btw, the Texas economy grew by -1.2% from 2008-2009, Washington State's shrunk by 0.7%. Cheney boarders the Rocky Mountains who's regional economy shrunk by 0.6% compared with the Southwest who saw a 1.2% decline in growth.

Don't worry sly, I'm laughing at you not with you. :thumb:

Wow, this is taking the hate to a whole new level.

Question - have you ever even been to EWU, to the campus, or to the stadium? While not the biggest venue, Roos is a great place to watch a game. To compare it to that HS facility is a joke. The press box alone is 10 times better than what's in those pictures. The grandstand seating is way better than the erector-set bleachers in that high school. Yeah, it's not the biggest venue, but there are some very nice facilities at EWU. The locker rooms as other internal facilities are amongst the best in the Big Sky. There's a lot of room for improvement, but there's plans in the works. The issue is the $$ right now - with all the state cut-backs in higher ed it's hard to justify spending money on stadium improvements, so everything's privately financed.

Try going someplace before you make some uniformed opinions based on some pictures on the internet. You have no fucking idea what you're talking about.
