Towson to name Cincinnati's Mike Waddell its new Athletic Director
Towson will name Mike Waddell, a senior associate director of athletics at the University of Cincinnati, its new athletic director, according to a source.

Waddell will be introduced Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Minnegan room of Johnny Unitas Stadium. Waddell replaces Mike Hermann, who resigned after four years at Towson on June 15.

He has watched and participated in the reemergence of Bearcat basketball and the rise to power of the football program. He should bring a lot to the table. Congrats and good luck.

From 1997-2000 Waddell was the director of athletics external operations at Appalachian State. As part of his duties, Waddell captained the corporate marketing and sales development for Appalachian Sports Marketing and was responsible for developing and implementing the multimedia strategic plan for the Southern Conference School, including the signing of 100,000 watt powerhouse WKBC-FM as the flagship radio home for Mountaineer Football and Basketball. His 1999 football marketing theme "ROCK SOLID" spawned Kidd Brewer Stadium's nickname "THE ROCK" being adopted as part of ASU Tradition. Waddell also negotiated a partnership with Daktronics t o provide more than $500,000 in fan-based capital improvements to Kidd Brewer Stadium, including the APPVISION video system.

So Towson's new AD is responsible for naming "The Rock".
