NEC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Everette Benjamin, Central Connecticut State
Sr., RB, 6-2, 225, Massapequa, NY/Hofstra
Benjamin did a bit of everything in his first-ever Northeast Conference contest. The senior running back rushed for three touchdowns, made two receptions, and completed a key pass attempt in Central Connecticut State’s 41-24 win over rival Bryant. Benjamin, a second team all-CAA fullback at Hofstra in 2009, ran 29 times for 188 yards and three touchdowns to help hand the Bulldogs’ their first loss of the season. After Bryant scored the game’s first 10 points, Benjamin put together a pair of touchdown runs (2, 42) that gave CCSU a 14-10 lead with 10:35 remaining in the first half. Contributing from all angles as the defending NEC champions opened their league schedule, he converted a 4th-and-10 by completing a 22-yard pass that led to an eventual field goal in the waning minutes of the second quarter.
NEC Football Co-Defensive Players of the Week
Michael Landers, Robert Morris
Sr., FS, 6-1, 210, Springdale, PA/Springdale
Landers led a defensive unit that forced five turnovers in a convincing 30-9 victory at Wagner. The senior safety made seven tackles (five solo) and accounted for two of the team’s four interceptions of preseason all-NEC quarterback Nick Doscher. Both of Landers’ picks came during Wagner’s scoreless second half. While helping ground a Seahawks’ offense that put up 41 points against Cornell one week earlier, Landers moved into the NEC’s all-time Top 10 for interceptions. His 11 career picks tie him for eighth.

Kona set up the game’s opening touchdown by forcing a fumble that gave the Dukes’ offense a short field. With Albany driving into Duquesne territory, the Marylander made his first career interception to help preserve what was a 21-7 second-quarter lead at that point. All seven of his stops limited Albany to a gain of three or fewer yards.

His 33-yard field goal extended CCSU’s lead to 17-10 only seconds before halftime.
