Catmom, I like your work and so forth but it takes a thick skin to hang around these parts. This may not be your style of site if you are looking for Mods to step in. This is a wild west type of deal over here and if someone is gonna fling shit then they will get handled on that board and as many threads get derailed here as any other site. Just telling you so you know. We are all grown men that have lived a life and there is much experience here so none of us will accept being mothered or fathered by anyone. As I said before welcome, but it may not be for you. I hope it is but you eat what you kill here.CatMom wrote:You guys want to grow up and stick to the topic of the thread? Re: What is your team losing for next season?
Losing 8 of 11 defensive starters?!? Yes, Weber loses some top producers on defense, including LBs Ryan Galovic, JD Folsom and Biff Swan, DTs Derek Johnson, Bryce Scanlon and Pate Moleni, and DBs Terrell Cloud and Scotty Goodloe.Wildcat Ryan wrote:Weber State is losing 19 seniors
8 of 11 defensive starters![]()
8 offensive players are leaving, but Weber only lost 3 offensive starters.![]()
Weber has also lost 2 defensive coaches, and 1 offensive coach courtesy of Utah State
I can't say exactly who started versus who got the most playing time, but WSU brings back a load of proven productive talent on the defense, and perhaps 5 starters by my count, including:
Kevin Linehan (14 games, 1st-team All Big Sky DE) and Ryan Eastman (13 games, All-conf honorable mention DT) on the D-Line (49 combined unassisted tackles, 100 total, 18 TFL, 12.5 sacks, 6 hurries and breakups, 6 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries...) ...not to mention Joe Larson, Brighton Barkdull and Taylor Caldwell (34 games, 50 tackles, 8 TFL 6 sacks and a fumble recovery among the group);
Josh Morris (1st team All BigSky) and Thyrell Lewis at Cornerback (14 games each, 63 unassisted tackles, 115 total, 7.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 6 ints, 13 breakups...) ...not to mention Antwain Stutson (11 game, 18 tackles, and one each TFL, sack, and fumble recovery);
Beau Hadley at Safety (Academic All-American and 1st team All Big Sky, led the team in tackles with 59 solo and 121 total tackles, 2.5 TFL, a sack, 4 ints, 6 breakups, 2 fumble recoveries and 5 forced fumbles) ... not to mention Nick Webb (11 games, 29 tackles)
IMO, only the linebacker position looks questionable for the Weber State defense so far for 2009.
Lots of returnees on offense, including SEVEN Big Sky All-Conference honorees:
SO QB Cameron Higgins, 1st team
JR RB Trevyn Smith, 1st team
JR WR Tim Toone, 1st team
JR C Kyle Mutcher, 1st team
JR TE Cody Nakamura, 2nd team
FR G JC Oram, 2nd team
SO WR Mike Phillips, honorable mention
In addition, JR P Mike Snoy (38.1-yd avg, 17 inside the 20) returns, as does SO PK Jon Williams (leading Big Sky kick scorer with 10 FG and 57 PAT for 87 points; 67-yd avg KO, 13 TB, no out of bounds)

Re: What is your team losing for next season?
Now, I hope I canjump in and do a bit of justice to our team.
All I know is that we are losing 9 from D. This could be good or bad. The guys going out were recruited by our previous coach and for a desert swarm D. Still one more class of his recruits. Our new D Coach is using a 4 -3 -4 but even he wasn't with us until August. However, Coach Wright did get to recruit those that will be Juniors, Sophs and what will be our redshirt and true frosh. I am told we have a few "beasts" coming in on the line. Remains to be seen.
Offense we have talent returning
QB - George
RB - Bush
RB - Canady
TE - Brooks
FB - Hampton
WR - Rivas
WR - Dillard
WR - Dunk
WR - Griggs
WR - LeBlanc
Stocked at WR though Rivas is a dual threat, as is Bush
OL - Bernard 6'3" 320
OL - Gore 6'5" 295
OL - Haese 6'1" 290 *
OL - Hall 6'2" 280 *
OL - Luna 6'3" 280
OL - Ruelas 6'2" 290
OL - Schneeweis 6'3" 295
OL - Sienkeweich 6'7" 290 *
OL - Vernon 6'5" 305 *
Redshirt QB Hawkins will get reps
* - Red Shirts
(I'll get to the D later)

Re: What is your team losing for next season?
Your offense was right up there with any I had seen the Griz play last year. Maybe a touch less than Cal Poly and Weber but that's pretty fantastic company to be in. The defense comes around a little and your team has a real shot at becoming something in the playoffs. I think the Southland as a whole should be a lot better conference next year. If McNeese doesn't het the absolute shit kecked out of them at Appalachian and doesn't win the conference next year going away then the Southland may be ready to take some teams out. Tough to say which SLC teams are in the hunt right now with Brown gone at UCA but I still think it's between you guys, McNeese, and UCA. Should be interesting.CatMom wrote:Now, I hope I canjump in and do a bit of justice to our team.

Re: McNeese...haven't studied who they're losing, but overall, they've dropped some notches in my book the past few years...just haven't performed as well as their talent pool should support. TS's returning O looks pretty solid...not many teams can boast solid depth on OL...absent some major gaffs during the off season...they should be wearing rings at the end of next season.CatMom wrote:And we play UCA & McNeese back to back at the end of the season (games 9 & 10)

What's the date and I will start looking into it. That would be a fun one to attend.
