PSU vs. Oregon

Post by frinq »

The silence of the lambs? No one's talking about this game against the Pac-10 behemoth. We should be grateful, I suppose, the less said the better, better not to watch. You couldn't find a clearer example of playing for the money. We'll be stomped. I hope the footprint isn't too deep. EVeryone here in Oregon agrees it won't be as bad as what UO did to New Mexico - 70-3. So....52-17? What would you consider to be a "respectable showing"?

I'm not so sure those outside of Oregon agree that it won't be as bad as what they did to UNM.

I'm gonna go with 70-9. The score you listed, 52-17, would be respectable against Oregon, IMO.

just get out healthy, take a couple of other positives from the game, and call it a success.

I will post my prediction tomorrow on my own thread, but I want to throw this into the mix. Everyone is saying we are going to not only lose but we are going to get our arses kicked. The scores being bantered around are bordering on crazy. Maybe we will lose by 70 or 80. Maybe the Ducks will break 100. Maybe there is no reason to play such a lopsided game. But for all these things being said, I think it takes away from any pressure on us and puts it squarely on the Ducks. No matter how many points the Ducks score, it won't be enough. No matter how many touchdowns Thomas or James score, it won't be enough. No one is talking about us. We just have to show up. No pressure at all. It is all on the Ducks because if they beat us by 30, people will say it should have been 40. If they beat us by 40, people will say it should have been 50. We just have to play knowing that whatever the outcome, the Ducks should have beaten us worse than they did.

I obviously think Oregon will win big, but I also believe it would be extremely distasteful of them to run up the score really bad against a fellow Oregon school who is not a rival in football. Cal was up on us big last year when we played them and didn't pull a lot of their starters until the 4th quarter, and I was hoping karma would bite them in the ass later on, which it did. That said, if Oregon hangs 70 on PSU with their second and third strings, well then that's another story.
