Big South fans...who are your impact players and sleepers?
well we are just under two weeks away from the kickoff of the 2010 race to the FCS playoffs and I thought Id pick your brains a bit...having seen your teams practice now...who do you think are your impact players going into the season on offense and defense? Also...do you have any players that right now are tooting along under the radar and could surprise people this year?

For VMI, they are expecting big things from Off. Linemen Bo Wren, Aaron Blue, and James Boatright, Def. linemen Josh Wine, Ben Brandt, and Damiso Alexander (all seniors), linebackers A J Gross, Emilio Calvin, and Kris Ware. Byron Allen and Michael Rainey-Wiles will lead the secondary.
From what guys have told me, who have attended some practices, running backs Gabe Itoka and Chaz Jones are very capable, as are wide receivers Byron Barnson, Aaron Lewis, Stefawn Ross, Trent White, and Tracy Hairston. Adam Morgan and Cam Jones still close at QB. Marc Ray is punting very well.

Chuck South has looked better this camp than they have since Mills got here. With a backfield that is legitimately 3 deep without a drop off the running game will play a much bigger portion of the offense than in years past. Gerald Stevenson is primed for an all American season as a WR and KR, Kwame Krakue will be a force to be reckoned with for opposing quarterbacks and their passing game. Not sure about a sleeper although I think one may come from the DL.

For CCU, it's our QB Jamie Childers. He's been doing some intensive training and has really improved his game.

Jamie Childers switched to TE this year. I'd say for CCU its CB Josh Norman.Ibanez wrote:For CCU, it's our QB Jamie Childers. He's been doing some intensive training and has really improved his game.

Brandon Miley (QB) is a definite impact player. He'll have to keep his INTs down, but he has a cannon for an arm, good size, and good wheels. One of Miley's favorite targets is Patrick McKoy (WR), who is a hoss. Lance Byrd and Trandon Dendy (RBs) should also have big years. Byrd ran for 270 yards against CSU alone, and Dendy plows over DBs unlucky enough to get in his way. Other players to watch on our offense include Robert Bumgarner (TE), Max Travis (OL) and Grayson Sumner (OL). Due to a lot of youth on the defensive side of the ball, that part of the team has more sleepers than impact players at this point, although Justin Bethel (DB) and Derren Evans (DL) are both very good.
*And we have a true freshman, Ryan Singer (QB), who (on paper) is as good as Todd Cunningham or Zach Ellis was.

You forgot to mention my good buddy, Brian Leonardi[DL] from Aiken, SC. He will bring it on every play!Hoseinexile07 wrote:Brandon Miley (QB) is a definite impact player.
