As I read it, these are recommendations and not rules yet, as the title suggests???
And I agree with those who have questioned why this doesn't apply to FBS.

I can tell you as a former player, it would completely suck to have to bus any distance further than 2 hours and then to play a game.
2 hrs or less and a night game probably isn't a problem as long as your get to the lockerroom at least 3-4 hours before kickoff. But anything other than that and your putting your team at a competitive disadvantage.

It probably doesn't apply to FBS because it was likely proposed by an FCS conference (or two) that wanted to make this a conference rule but yet didn't want to be seen as putting only its conference teams at a disadvantage.Catattack wrote:As I read it, these are recommendations and not rules yet, as the title suggests???

Our closest conference game, right now, is SAM and that's 3 hrs by car. I know for a fact that the team goes the night before and stays in a hotel (Hey, I tried for the same hotel but had to settle for the one next door)danefan wrote:I can tell you as a former player, it would completely suck to have to bus any distance further than 2 hours and then to play a game.

There are several teams, though, that drive to San Marcos the same day. I know SAM did last year. But I don't know what time they arrived. A few of the LA teams go half to 3/4 of the way and others stay in Austin. It's a hell of a bus ride for those guys to try and not stay at a hotel. But those are away games. That's not what this is addressing anyway.
Coach Wright raised the funds and paid for the hotel in SM for the team to be together the night before the home games. Embassy Suites if I recall correctly. I am more than posisitive the local manager gave them some sort of deal. He is of the opinion that it is better for the team to be together the night before. If you check our last 2 regular season away records, it bears out.
BTW - TXST has taken the approach of flying to some of the LA games, then busing home.

Agreed. I bused 3/12 hrs for a semipro game and it sucked.danefan wrote:I can tell you as a former player, it would completely suck to have to bus any distance further than 2 hours and then to play a game.
