OK---try and follow this:
Maine beats UNH, Maine finishes 9-3 (6-2) and wins the CAA North. UNH finishes 8-3 (5-3) in second place in the North. JMU rolls Towson and finishes 10-1 (8-0), winning the South handily. Villanova rolls Delaware and finishes 9-2 (7-1) and is in the playoffs. If the belief is that ALL four of these teams are in the playoffs, what about the winner of the Richmond/W&M game? If Richmond wins they finish @ 9-3 (6-2), and if W&M wins they finish 8-3 (6-2). Who has the better resume of the 3-loss teams (Maine, UNH, Richmond/W&M? Do they ALL get in? Is it possible for the CAA to have 5 teams AGAIN this year?
In my opinion, if Maine beats UNH, UNH should NOT be going to the playoffs. Their BEST win is Army....they would not have won a single difficult conference game (losing to W&M, Maine, and Villanova). At least W&M has a win over UNH and a potential win over Richmond, and Richmond would have a potential win over W&M and a win over Maine.
Thoughts? How pissed are SoCon folks gonna be if this scenario plays out and UNH gets in over a 9-3 Elon team without a quality win? Because, with the way things worked out, it looks like the last at-large bid is going to come down to Elon, Richmond/W&M winner, & UNH. There really isn't another conference that has a 2nd/3rd place team that's got a legitimate bid for that last slot....

Re: CAA Playoff Scenario 11/22
People are saying the winner of the Richmond/W&M game is going to the playoffs and the loser is staying home. I think if W&M wins, then I think Richmond should go regardless. Richmond barely lost to UVA(0-3 until mid way through the 4th quarter), JMU, and Villanova. Beat UMASS and Elon. Plus if they lost to W&M they would probably drop no worse than 11th since they are 7th right now. I doubt this will happen. I think Richmond will win probably by 14pts. So in that case; JMU, Villanova, Richmond, then the winner of the UNH/Maine. I think UNH will win, but Maine is tougher than what most people think.
Re: CAA Playoff Scenario 11/22
So in the bracket it should be JMU, Villanova, UNH, Richmond, App. St., Weber State, South Carolina St. Montana, Colgate/Holy Cross, tenn-martin/Eastern Kentucky, Texas St, Cal Poly, Wofford, SIU, Northern Iowa, and Elon if they can hold off Liberty.

I'm assuming those aren't in any particular order...

Obviously not.......
Re: CAA Playoff Scenario 11/22
Looks about right. However, I think Maine sneaks by UNH this weekend and gets in instead. Nothing more than future guessing though...
I'd bet you have 14 AT LEAST right.
GAWD, I wish they would just seed all the teams based on records/resumes.
1 JMU 16 Colgate/Holy Cross
2 Appst 15 Texas St
3 Villanova 14 Tenn-Martin/EKU
4 Weber St 13 South Carolina St
5 Richmond 12 UNH/Maine
6 Montana 11 Elon
7 Cal Poly 10 Wofford
8 SIU 9 UNI (yeah that first round matchup won't happen)
You can argue SOS, resumes all you want. I honestly couldn't tell you which team is better out of the last 8, and I'm sure some/most of you won't like my FIRST 8, but the point stands. RANK'EM!! I, personally, would like to see it this way. No griping about what seed you get, just matchup and go play. Obvisously this ignores geography, so they'll never adopt it. Committees rarely get all the rankings correct, but it would give casual observers an idea of whether the game is a HUGE mismatch or a battle between closely ranked teams. I dunno, its a thought.

Re: CAA Playoff Scenario 11/22
I agree with the plan....teams could be shuffled a little bit, as I think you've got Texas St too low, SCU too high, Richmond too high (but not much in any case)....I also agree they'll never do it. Montana, Weber, Cal Poly, Texas St will all get stuck in the same bracket with 2 CAA teams and a SoCon team and a cupcake (for one of the CAA teams to play). 2 CAA teams will get in the other side (along with the other SoCon team) and Montana, Weber & Cal Poly will all have to play EACH OTHER in the first two rounds, then we'll hear the same drivel about how a BSC or Southland team never gets far enough in the playoffs....Montucky wrote:Looks about right. Re: CAA Playoff Scenario 11/22
Yea, close enough for this scenario.
Yep, on the Weber, UM, and CalP having to play each other. Stupid, but better than BCS. Whatever, I am so excited for the playoffs, I keep forgetting its GRIZZZ/cat week. Woot! Woot!! Should be fun. I think I'll go out and shoot a deer first thing, but I'll be back in time to see the game in HD.
Not sure what this has to do with the CAA playoff scenario, but....there is NO way W&M gets by Richmond this weekend. There I said it.
