According to a high source within the Texas State Department of Athletics, the Bobcats have expressed high interest in joining four Football Bowl Subdivision conferences when the NCAA moratorium is lifted in 2011.
Texas State has talked with Conference USA, Mountain West, Sun Belt and the Western Athletic Conference about joining once movement is allowed.

Not going to lie would be very exciting to see the bobcats come play the Utes. I think they would fit in the MWC very well especially now since the Big Ten and Pac Ten are possibly thinking of expanding to 12 teams each.

Don't think the Mountain West is in the realm of possibilities.
SunBelt or more likely WAC

WAC makes better sense and Louisiana Tech would have a conference opponent that doesn't take half a day to reach.

Unless LA Tech leaves the WAC for the CUSA which is more than likely.catamount man wrote:WAC makes better sense and Louisiana Tech would have a conference opponent that doesn't take half a day to reach.

Re: TXST expresses interest in 4 conferences
Texas St. 0 chance at MWC and CUSA. La Tech damn near 0 chance at CUSA. Texas St. excellent chance at the WAC and Sun Belt. I want them with us in the WAC. I'd love to get back into Texas. WAC could lose Boise St. first target will be Montana. After that they'll look at Texas St., UC Davis, Cal Poly, Sac St. The next wave MWC could lose BYU, Utah, and New Mexico or Colorado St. The 3 likely schools to replace them would be Houston, Fresno St., Nevada. This would open up 2 more spots in the WAC. B12 has said they don't want any Texas schools as long as they don't lose UT/A&M
You could see this
B10-Nebraska
P12-Utah, Colorado
B12-BYU, New Mexico
MWC-Boise St., Houston, Fresno St., Nevada
CUSA-M.Tenn.St.
WAC-Montana, Texas St., UC Davis
Sun Belt-Georgia St., Lamar, UTSA(when ready)
Jacksonville St. might also be in the running. Just depends what conferences want to wait for UTSA. WAC could also add UTSA as #10 which would open a spot for JSU as #12 for fb and #14 over all, Belt could just choose to have 10/12, thus leaving a couple of schools out.
B10 could also go to 14 opening up more spots P10 could stay at 10 stopping more spots.

Didn't GA St just start? I'm not sure they've been around in FCS land long enough to warrant a trip to BogusLand by current NCAA rules.
I personally think TX St makes a HUGE mistake if they jump to the Sun Belt. That's one of the most jacked up conferences in all of BogusLand. I'm not sure they're good enough for the WAC, but regardless, that would be a MUCH better scenario for them (especially in terms of exposure) than the Sun Belt. The only bad part would be the trip to HI.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Only Boise St. would move by 2011, the rest 2012 or 2013 when the B10 strikes. GSU could leave by 2012, so could Lamar, UTSA would be 2013 if they start in 2011SuperHornet wrote:Didn't GA St just start? Re: TXST expresses interest in 4 conferences
I agree that Texas St have pretty much no chance at MWC or CUSA. But I am glad they are at least trying and talking. I really see them going to the WAC. I would love to see them end up there. The big question is when. Of course major realignment plays a role but Texas St is ready and will want to jump ASAP.Fresno St. Alum wrote:Only Boise St. would move by 2011, the rest 2012 or 2013 when the B10 strikes. By WAC standards it is. Ask HawaiiCatMom wrote:Well, it's not exactly a spit and throw at 427 miles.catamount man wrote:WAC makes better sense and Louisiana Tech would have a conference opponent that doesn't take half a day to reach.
Fresno St. is "lucky" we have SJSU 3 hrs away and Nevada 5 hrs away

That would be our closest game and a nearly 8 hr drive.
I can't make away games now when they are 3-6 hrs (work schedule and other reasons). I'd never get to one of these

Re: TXST expresses interest in 4 conferences
Why doesn't anyone bother to mention PSU in terms of the WAC? With our stadium renovations we'll seat at least 25,000. Winning? We haven't done much of that the last couple years, with Glanville as coach. But we've got a new (and better ) coach and I expect things will turn around - they usually do. God knows the fans here are talking up the WAC. If Sac State is worth mentioning I reckon PSU is. Now having said that, I think it would be a horrible mistake to move to the WAC. It simply costs too much. We've got a library to renovate, as well as a couple other major capital projects.

Do you guys still want to move up? I think the WAC commish mentioned Portland St., UC Davis, Cal Poly, Texas St., Sac St., Montana.frinq wrote:Why doesn't anyone bother to mention PSU in terms of the WAC? It just depends who's ready to go when the WAC calls and says we need you now. Texas St. is ready to go. If Montana says they are they come first. Lamar and UTSA said they want to move up but aren't allowed til they put in at least 2 FCS years.
